At Mawabeni business center, Net-One
employees came to sell lines to the people.
They asked each local leader to collect 5
lines per village. In Msizini village, TN, a
local leader gave his lines to his friends
and left out some people with positions of
responsibility in the village. It is reported
that SM, a female member of the MDC,
aged 50, approached TN about the lines
and informed him that she did not get one.
SM demanded the names of those who
received these lines, when this failed; she
then started insulting the victim. She
accused Zanu PF of using these lines for
campaigning. SM is a member of MDC
and she told TN that he was a thief just like
his Zanu PF bosses. TN was threatened
with death, by SM if he does not step
down.
At Sizeze School in ward 8, SM, a member
of MDC, was harassed and chased away
from maize distribution point in S by GD
and RS, both Zanu PF members. They
denied him permission to buy maize from
the irrigation because of his political
affiliation. He reported the matter to the
police but they did nothing about it.
people from the opposition and anyone
whom they think could be derailing their
party’s leadership. They have reportedly
dissolved any meetings held by the
opposition, MDC, labelling them ‘sell
outs’.
MM, was threatened and assaulted by two
Zanu PF members, IN and BM who were
accusing him of accompanying Zimrights
staff and distributing Zimrights material in
the area. It appears these perpetrators were
acting on instructions from the Councillor.
Intimidation has been the order of the day
in the area since Zimrights embarked on a
programme of human rights awareness.
18 June 2007
Zanu PF had a misunderstanding with his 2
sons in 2002.He wanted them to move to a
resettlement area and they refused
saying they were not Zanu PF
supporters. On this particular day his
grand child passed away and he was
called to attend the burial but refused
saying that his children and grand
children are MDC and they do not listen
to him. The Councillor had to be called
to help the family by bringing the
grandfather to the funeral.
At Shake village, a ward meeting was
called by the Councillor, JM. At the
