Figure 63: Radio Convergence Function
The Radio Convergence Function is the specific part of the Radio driver. It has a generic interface with
the upper layer of the Radio driver: the Radio Channel Manager. It has a specific interface with the
Access Stratum, to take into account the specificities of the TD-CDMA AS layer.
4.3.3.1 TD-CDMA Connection Manager block
• Broadcasting sub-block
It will transmit the broadcast requests from the RCM, message IWF_BROADCAST_REQ, to the Access
Stratum (AS), via message INFORMATION_BROADCAST_REQ, with the information to be broadcasted
and the period as parameters.
Two types of information can be broadcasted: Router Advertisement and list of IP addresses of each
neighbouring Access Routers (as explained in the IWF description).
Each type of message to be broadcasted will have a specific period, stored as local information in this
sub-block.
For the Router Advertisement, we will broadcast them once, every time it is received by the RG.
For the list of IP addresses, a reasonable value is in the order of a few seconds (to be refined during
integration tests).
Note that we could broadcast any other information of interest for the Mobile Terminal Non Access
Stratum or upper layers (MIPv6 stack, MTNM, Fast Handover module…).
• Paging sub-block
It will transmit the paging requests from the RCM, message IWF_PAGING_REQ, to the AS, via message
PAGING_REQ, with the local connection reference and the IP paging packet (and its length) as
parameters.
• Open / Close connection sub-block
The Open / Close Connection sub-block manages the Radio Connections with Mobile Terminals.
The current number of Mobile Terminals connected to the Radio Gateway will be stored locally, and a
maximum number will be defined.
The connections can only be opened on the MT initiative.
Upon reception of the message CONNECTION_ESTABLISHMENT_IND from the AS (parameter: local
connection reference, IMEI of MT), the current number of MT connected will be compared to the
maximum number allowed. The connection request will be accepted if it is lower, and refused otherwise.
The message CONNECTION_ESTABLISHMENT_CONF will be sent to the AS, to be transmitted to the
MT. The parameters are: the local connection reference and the status (connection accepted or refused).
A local list containing all the MT connected will be updated with the local connection reference of the
newly connected MT.
The message OPEN_TD-CDMA_CONN_IND, with parameter local connection reference and IMEI of
MT, will be transmitted to the RCM, to be sent to the IWF Info Management block.
When the connection has been opened, the RCF of the MT sends a NAS signalling message
(DATA_TRANSFER_IND with specific type NAS_CONNECTION_INFO) to the RCF of the RG, with the
parameters: Home Address and CoA of MT. This information is passed to the Open / Close Connection
sub-block of the RCM, with the associated local connection reference, via message OPEN_TD-
CDMA_CONN_INFO.
The connections can only be closed on the MT initiative.
Upon reception of the message CONNECTION_RELEASE_IND from the AS (parameter: local
connection reference), a request to release every radio bearer associated to the connection will be sent to
the AS, via message (one per bearer) RADIO_BEARER_RELEASE_REQ (parameters: local connection
