4.1.2.4 Radio Convergence Function
The Radio Convergence Function is the specific part of the Radio driver. It has a generic interface with
the upper layer of the Radio driver: the Radio Channel Manager. It has a specific interface with the
Access Stratum, to take into account the specificities of the TD-CDMA AS layer. It is split into the
following sub-blocks.
RCF
TD-CDMA Connection WCDMA Manager
Connection Manager
TD-cdma Wcdma
The schemas of the previous section on the RCM can be used to describe the interactions between the
RCM / RCF / AS modules.
4.1.2.4.1 TD-CDMA Connection Manager block
TD-CDMA Infos sub-block
The WCMDA Infos sub-block will receive the following messages from the AS:
• INFORMATION_BROADCAST_IND, with the list of IP addresses of neighbouring Access
Routers (connected to Radio Gateways) and an associated RG Identifier (the cell Id) for each of
them.
• MEASUREMENT_INDICATION, with a table containing a list of signal quality level for the
neighbouring Radio Gateways and their associated cell Id.
A table will be maintained and updated, with the 3 following information, if available: RG Identifier (cell
Id), IP address of AR, signal level quality.
Every time a new MEASUREMENT_INDICATION or INFORMATION_BROADCAST_IND will be
received from the AS, the table will be updated.
Every n milliseconds, the message TD-CDMA_INFO will be transmitted to the Radio Infos sub-block of
the RCM, to be transferred to the Network Environment Infos block of the MTNM. It will contain a list
with the following information: cell Id, signal level quality, IP address of AR (extracted from the
previously described table).
The MTNM could also proactively request the sending of the message TD-CDMA_INFO at any moment,
as already explained in a previous section. It would trigger the sending of the message
MEASUREMENT_REQ to the AS, to obtain updated information via the AS message
MEASUREMENT_IND. This will not be implemented in Moby Dick, as we don’t need it.
The WCMDA Infos sub-block will also receive the following messages from the AS:
• INFORMATION_BROADCAST_IND, with a router advertisement from the Access Router
associated to a neighbouring RG.
These router advertisements from the Access Router, received via AS message
INFORMATION_BROADCAST_IND, will be transferred to the Control Packet sub-block, of the Packet
Reception block of the RCM. They will then be passed directly to the IPv6 stack.
Open / Close Connection sub-block
The Open / Close Connection sub-block manages the radio connections. Upon reception of a request to
open a connection from the RCM, it will request the AS to execute it, via the message
CONNECTION_ESTABLISHMENT_REQ, with a local connection reference (to be attributed locally) and
the cell Id (if not provided, the best available RG is chosen by the AS) as parameters. It will wait for the
answer of the AS, via message CONNECTION_ESTABLISHMENT_RESP, with the local connection
reference and a status. The status and the local connection reference will be transmitted to the RCM, to be
handled at the RCM level.
