D0103v1.doc Version 1 6.7.2003 5.2.5.3 Paging process A paging process is initiated from the PA on arrival of an initial user-data packet (paging trigger packet) at the PA. This (and further) initial paging trigger packets are to be buffered at the PA while the paging process re-activates a mobile terminal and initiates re-establishment of a routable link for this MN. For the paging process, the PA sends a Paging Request message to all ARs assigned to the registered paging area. The signalling message carries the paging process keys to each individual AR, which is to be used from local paging attendants to allow authentication of locally generated on-link paging messages at the MN. When a MN is being paged, it has to wake-up, re-establish full functionality to attach to the appropriate local link as well as to re-establish routing information. The acquired CoA has to be registered with the MN’s HA by means of the standard MIPv6 procedure as well as to be notified to the PA in the dormant mode registration (Dormant Registration with lifetime set to 0) to allow forwarding of buffered paging trigger packets.
