Mission Statements of Participating <strong>Campus</strong> <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Museum</strong>s<br />
AMAM: <strong>The</strong> Allen Memorial <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> is founded on the belief that the study<br />
and appreciation of high-quality original works of art is an indispensable part of<br />
an excellent liberal arts education. <strong>The</strong> AMAM acquires, preserves, exhibits, and<br />
interprets its collections to promote the highest standards of visual literacy and<br />
encourage multi-disciplinary inquiry. Open free of charge to all, the AMAM is a<br />
vital resource for the students, faculty, and staff of Oberlin College as well as the<br />
public of Northeast Ohio and a national and international audience.<br />
IUAM: <strong>The</strong> IU <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Museum</strong>’s mission is to preserve, exhibit, collect, research,<br />
publish, and interpret original works of art to advance the academic goals of Indiana<br />
University and to enrich the cultural lives and spiritual well being of society.<br />
MU <strong>Museum</strong> of <strong>Art</strong> and Archaeology: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> of <strong>Art</strong> and Archaeology<br />
advances understanding of our artistic and cultural heritage through research,<br />
collection, and interpretation. We help students, scholars and the broader<br />
community to experience authentic and significant art and artifacts firsthand<br />
and to place them in meaningful contexts. We further this mission by preserving,<br />
enhancing and providing access to the collections for the benefit of present and<br />
future generations.<br />
Smart: As the art museum of the University of Chicago, the David and Alfred<br />
Smart <strong>Museum</strong> of <strong>Art</strong> promotes the understanding of the visual arts and their<br />
importance to cultural and intellectual history through direct experiences with<br />
original works of art and through an interdisciplinary approach to its collections,<br />
exhibitions, publications, and programs. <strong>The</strong>se activities support life-long learning<br />
among a range of audiences including the University and the broader community.<br />
Snite: <strong>The</strong> Snite <strong>Museum</strong> of <strong>Art</strong> provides opportunities to enjoy, respond to, learn<br />
from, and be inspired by original works of art. As an integral unit of the University<br />
of Notre Dame, the <strong>Museum</strong> supports teaching and research; furthers faith-based<br />
initiatives for greater internal diversity and service to the external community; and<br />
reflects the traditions and values of the University.<br />
Spencer: <strong>The</strong> Spencer <strong>Museum</strong> of <strong>Art</strong> sustains a diverse collection of art and<br />
works of cultural significance. It encourages interdisciplinary exploration at the<br />
intersection of art, ideas, and experience. <strong>The</strong> Spencer strengthens, supports, and<br />
contributes to the academic research and teaching of the University of Kansas and<br />
is committed to serving communities of learners across Kansas and beyond.<br />
