Scientific Conference at the University of Navarra.
The KNX Scientific Conference
2010 was held at the
Universidad Pública de Navarra
November 4 – 5. The
event was hosted by Professor
Ignacio Matias, Director
of the School of Engineering,
and Professor Carlos Fernández
Valdivielso, who is a longstanding
and active member
of the KNX Scientific Forum.
The conference explored
many important topics including
the following: Smart
Grid and Green networking;
KNX IP, BACnet and OPC
innovations; KNX@Home,
data mining and open source
approaches; interfacing which
covered among others, the
subjects of the exposure of
KNX devices through pervasive
computing middleware
and fibre optic sensor integration;
KNX RF and the development
of new KNX devices;
and applications ranging from
NFC technologies that are
used in daily life through to integrating
surveillance systems
into KNX.
It was a privilege for the forum
delegates to be invited to
visit the Navarra Parliament
Building and to be shown the
KNX installation there. The
delegates were welcomed by
the President of the Parliament,
Ms Elena Torres Miranda
who had very kindly
agreed, along with the KNX
President Mr Godehardt Schneider,
to present the KNX
bi-annual award for the best
scientific project based on
KNX.

Training Centre Conference 2011
After the successful release of
ETS4 on October 20, 2010,
training centres had the opportunity
to share their ideas
and experiences of the software
at the 2011 annual conference
for training centres.
Once again the conference
was hosted by ABB Stotz Kontakt
in Heidelberg (Germany),
which is gradually becoming
the cradle for organizing such
events. The audience of more
than 70 delegates from training
centres ranging from India
to Sweden, listened attentively
to the presentations given by
Amsterdam (Netherland)
KNX Association. The main
topic of the conference was
the new ETS4 training documentation
for training centres
and the presentation of the
outlook on the new ETS functionalities
and improvements
to be realized in the future.
ETS4 has truly fulfilled all expectations
and is set to take
the lead in becoming “the”
software for planning and
commissioning KNX installations.

KNX at
Integrated Systems Europe 2011 (ISE)
Winner of KNX Scientific Award 2010

Mr Georg Neugschwandtner
from the Vienna University
of Technology was the deserving
winner of the Award
2010. His paper gave special
attention to the steps that lie
between the requirements
specification and a ready-torun
system, with all devices
installed and fully configured.
ISE is one of the most important
KNX trade fairs; this event
was held in February in Amsterdam.
For the first time a
new iPhone/iPad/iPod application
was shown. Based on the
KNX technology, this application
integrates and controls
the entire living environment
consisting of home automation,
multimedia and IT. On
this occasion, KNX exhibited a
fantastic booth in collaboration
KNX booth at
ISE2011 trade
show
with some KNX Manufacturers
(BleuComm´Azur, Divus, Eelectron,
Elsner, Empure, GVS,
HDL, Tci, Woertz) who demonstrated
that audio and video
applications can be fully integrated
in houses and buildings.
Moreover, 26 KNX members
showed the interconnection of
the “audio and video world“
with KNX at their own booths.
