Councillor NORMAN HOGG
Personal
Born in Halewood to a farming family,
Norman was educated at Halewood
Church of England and Whiston
Secondary Schools.
After training as an apprentice
electrician in Liverpool, Norman joined
the army, serving in Suez, Germany
and Cyprus, before returning to
Halewood to work for a number of
pharmaceutical companies.
Norman has been married to Wendy for
49 years. They have two children, Julie
and Nicholas, and four grandchildren.
Public Life
Norman has represented Halewood
West for the past 14 years and has held
various positions, including Vice-Chair
of Licensing and Planning Committees
and Chair of the Halewood Area Forum.
He has also provided support and
advice to newly elected councillors.
Prior to Norman taking up the role of
Mayor, he has been the Chair of
Halewood Partnership Board, Leader of
Halewood Town Council and a member
of the board for Halewood Boys Club.
He is also very committed to supporting
all community associations within the
Halewood area and has been involved
in various trade union activities during
his working life.
He was presented with a long service
award as governor for Highfield
Special School and is currently
serving as governor at Halewood
Centre for Learning and Holy Family
Junior School.

Interests
Norman has a range of hobbies
including growing fruit, gardening and
DIY. Through his role as a school
governor, he also enjoys taking part
in school activities and supporting
school functions.
MAYORESS
Norman’s wife Wendy is the Mayoress
for 2012/13.
Wendy was also born in Halewood
and attended Halewood Church of
England and Whiston Secondary
Modern schools.
She trained as a hairdresser and held
posts in Halewood and Huyton as a
manageress. For the last 22 years,
Wendy has worked as a mobile relief
warden for sheltered accommodation.
Wendy’s hobbies are making jams from
home grown fruit, baking cakes for a
local charity each week and gardening.

Guidance for Mayoral Events
The Worshipful the Mayor shall have
precedence within the Metropolitan
Borough of Knowsley subject only to
the presence of Her Majesty the Queen
or a representative of Her Majesty.
• The responsible person at any event
should meet the Mayor at the
entrance on arrival and should
introduce him to the host or to the
assembled company.
• When the Mayor is formally
announced, those present should
rise and this should be repeated
when he leaves.
• Unless the Mayor occupies the
Chair, he should be seated on the
immediate right of the person
presiding.
• Except for an introduction, unless
otherwise agreed, it is usual
practice that the Mayor should be
the first speaker.
• When greeting the Mayor, he should
be welcomed with a hand-shake
and addressed as ‘Mr Mayor’.

The Mayor’s Charity
The Mayor is raising funds to support two charities in 2012/13. They are:
HoneyRose Foundation
A charity which supports local
people who are suffering from a terminal illness.
Friends of Knowsley Young Carers
A project to provide relief and support to young people in
Knowsley who provide care to a family member.
A donation will also be made to Listening Ear Merseyside,
which is a community-based charity providing a free, confidential
listening, counselling and bereavement support service.
