CONSULTATION WITH OTHER COUNCIL DEPARTMENTS
Both Technical Services and Planning and Environment Departments have consulted in the
preparation <strong>of</strong> this report.
SUMMARY
Whilst traffic access is one important aspect, consideration also needs <strong>to</strong> <strong>be</strong> given <strong>to</strong> property
ownership and the processes associated with the possible creation and closure <strong>of</strong> roads.
Associated with the proposed Stage 2 residential strategy, Council has engaged a traffic consultant
<strong>to</strong> undertake modeling <strong>of</strong> the entire St Ives village centre area based on the likely future
development. This study will examine a num<strong>be</strong>r <strong>of</strong> options <strong>to</strong> improve traffic flow through the area
given the existing traffic issues and likely future demands. This study is <strong>to</strong> <strong>be</strong> concluded by early
May 2005.
Given that Council is soon required <strong>to</strong> prepare a new LEP for the St Ives village centre and a traffic
consultant has <strong>be</strong>en engaged <strong>to</strong> undertake traffic modeling <strong>of</strong> the area, it is considered that access
and egress from the site should not <strong>be</strong> considered in isolation. The traffic impacts associated with
the redevelopment <strong>of</strong> the site will <strong>be</strong> included in the traffic study report which is expected <strong>to</strong> <strong>be</strong>
finalised in May 2005.
RECOMMENDATION
That the preferred access arrangements <strong>be</strong> further assessed following completion <strong>of</strong> the
traffic study for the St Ives area and taking in<strong>to</strong> consideration assessment <strong>of</strong> likely traffic
generation from any development application proposals lodged with Council.
