These systems have all <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>en implemented successfully. Council has process-mapped many <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> its<br />

functi<strong>on</strong>s in c<strong>on</strong>juncti<strong>on</strong> with this implement<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> maximise structural/oper<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>al efficiency.<br />

Improvements include:<br />

• More detailed and meaningful asset d<strong>at</strong>a collecti<strong>on</strong> and reporting.<br />

• Streamlined financial ledgers and reporting<br />

• Electr<strong>on</strong>ic document management system which has removed the need for physical file<br />

maintenance.<br />

• Development <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> electr<strong>on</strong>ic d<strong>at</strong>abase for all applic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s, which allows for accur<strong>at</strong>e<br />

tracking and reporting <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> applic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s. This will <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> further progressed over the next<br />

twelve m<strong>on</strong>ths <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> enable remote tracking <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> applic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s by Council’s c<strong>on</strong>stituents.<br />

• Processing <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> credi<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs by Electr<strong>on</strong>ic Funds Transfer (EFT).<br />

The challenge for Council over the coming twelve m<strong>on</strong>ths will involve tightening the interacti<strong>on</strong><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>tween systems, developing a centralised booking system and c<strong>on</strong>tinuing enhancement <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> asset<br />

reporting capability<br />

Oblig<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s under The Thre<strong>at</strong>ened Species C<strong>on</strong>serv<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> Act 1997require the prepar<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> and<br />

implement<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> recovery plans for thre<strong>at</strong>ened species and endangered ecological communities.<br />

These requirements have direct impacts <strong>on</strong> planning, oper<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>al and regula<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ry activities <strong>at</strong> Council.<br />

Most recently this is evidenced by the approval <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the darwinia Biflora recovery plan affecting<br />

significant areas <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Council bushland.<br />

• Activity associ<strong>at</strong>ed with the implement<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Internet and Web based technologies <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

service community demand for access <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> inform<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>.<br />

• Increasing focus <strong>on</strong> risk management in resp<strong>on</strong>se <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> legisl<strong>at</strong>ive requirements, cost <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

insurance and litig<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> and changes required by the amendments <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Occup<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>al Health<br />

& Safety Act.<br />

• The introducti<strong>on</strong> within our Library Services <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> an indigenous collecti<strong>on</strong> and a specialist<br />

technical library service for Council staff <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> assist in overall organis<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>al service delivery.<br />

• C<strong>on</strong>tinuing growth and sophistic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> in c<strong>on</strong>sult<strong>at</strong>ive mechanisms used throughout Council ..<br />

Establishing / Negoti<strong>at</strong>ing Altern<strong>at</strong>ive means <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Achieving sought Outcomes<br />

Ku-ring-gai Council has sought opportunities <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> use altern<strong>at</strong>e methods <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> achieve the desired service<br />

and oper<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>al standards.<br />

Examples <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> changes <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> service delivery include:<br />

• Increases <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the use <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> landscape c<strong>on</strong>trac<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs for the c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Open Space<br />

em<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>llishments.<br />

• Complementing work teams with casual or external suppliers <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> meet seas<strong>on</strong>al spikes or<br />

labour demand <strong>on</strong> specific projects. This has produced a multiple <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>nefit <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> allowing work<br />

teams <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>tinue a focus <strong>on</strong> programmed work schedules with additi<strong>on</strong>al costs <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>ing<br />

incurred <strong>on</strong>ly when specific tasks or projects are required <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> undertaken.<br />

• Recruitment <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> specialist c<strong>on</strong>trac<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs within our trade and fleet areas <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> address specialist<br />

programme needs.<br />

• Council has established a taskforce <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> identify ways <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> use the Web and technology <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> more<br />
