The programme that is proposed seeks <strong>to</strong> implement a range <strong>of</strong> projects over and above the
organisation’s capacity <strong>to</strong> deliver through its recurrent operations budget and current capital works
funds. The specific projects address:
‣ immediate issues - such as managing bushfire risk;
‣ medium term needs - including reducing our reliance on potable water;
‣ issues <strong>of</strong> strategic importance - res<strong>to</strong>ration <strong>of</strong> bushland and reducing the spread <strong>of</strong> noxious
weeds <strong>to</strong> environmentally significant areas.
Without the proposed funding the opportunity cost for Ku-ring-gai residents will <strong>be</strong> significantly
higher as a result <strong>of</strong>:
o continuing environmental degradation and exponential cost <strong>to</strong> remediate or res<strong>to</strong>re degraded
systems in the future;
o increasing community expectations for service delivery; and
o changes in policy and direction by State Government that seek improved resource
efficiency, asset management and environmental protection.
