Ordinary R<strong>at</strong>e<br />

The land within the Ku-ring-gai area is divided in<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> two c<strong>at</strong>egories, Residential and<br />

Business.<br />

R<strong>at</strong>e Levy<br />

Council has adopted a Differential R<strong>at</strong>e with a General Residential R<strong>at</strong>e and a General<br />

Business R<strong>at</strong>e. Council has elected not <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> levy a base charge. Business and Residential<br />

C<strong>at</strong>egories can <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> defined as follows:<br />

Residential<br />

Each parcel <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> land valued as <strong>on</strong>e assessment whose dominant use is for residential<br />

accommod<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> (other than as a hotel, motel, guesthouse, boarding house or nursing<br />

home or any other form <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> residential accommod<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> whose dominant use is for<br />

business or pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>it).<br />

Business<br />

Each parcel <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> land valued as <strong>on</strong>e assessment whose dominant use is for business,<br />

commerce or associ<strong>at</strong>ed with business for pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>it, whether pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>itable or not.<br />

Special R<strong>at</strong>e - Infrastructure Levy<br />

The infrastructure levy is used <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> upgrade Council’s road network. The Minister for<br />

Local Government approved a special r<strong>at</strong>e for five years from 2002 <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2006. Currently,<br />

eligible pensi<strong>on</strong>ers receive a full reb<strong>at</strong>e <strong>on</strong> this levy.<br />

Special R<strong>at</strong>e – Envir<strong>on</strong>mental Levy<br />

Council has resolved <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> make applic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Minister for Local Government for the<br />

introducti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> an Envir<strong>on</strong>mental Levy. The levy (if approved) will <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> levied <strong>on</strong> each<br />

parcel <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> land c<strong>at</strong>egorised Residential or Business.<br />

The yield is expected <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> $1,887,000 per annum. However, Council has resolved th<strong>at</strong><br />

there will <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> a voluntary reb<strong>at</strong>e for pensi<strong>on</strong>ers, which amounts <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> $127,000.<br />

Accordingly, $1,760,000 will <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> available for Envir<strong>on</strong>mental Works. It is expected th<strong>at</strong><br />

the r<strong>at</strong>e in the dollar will <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> $0.0001107.<br />
