SOCIAL COMMMUNITY PLANNING<br />

Executive Summary<br />

The Local Government (General) Regul<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> 1999 requires all Councils in New South<br />

Wales <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> develop a social/community plan and include inform<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> about access and<br />

equity activities in their Management Plan and Annual Report. The regul<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> was<br />

introduced <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>:<br />

Promote fairness in the distributi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> resources, particularly for those most in need.<br />

Recognise and promote people's rights and improve the accountability <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> decisi<strong>on</strong><br />

makers.<br />

Ensure th<strong>at</strong> people have fair access <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the ec<strong>on</strong>omic resources and services essential<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>meeting</str<strong>on</strong>g> their basic needs and improve their quality <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> life.<br />

Give people <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>tter opportunities for genuine particip<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> and c<strong>on</strong>sult<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> about<br />

decisi<strong>on</strong>s affecting their lives.<br />

Council through its social planning process has identified a range <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> issues across a<br />

num<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>r <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> target groups. Council is currently in the process <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> developing a new<br />

Community Plan and it will <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> placed <strong>on</strong> public exhibiti<strong>on</strong> during April <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> June <strong>2005</strong>.<br />
