FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY<br />

Ku-ring-gai is a largely developed Council with an ageing infrastructure and a heavy<br />

reliance <strong>on</strong> r<strong>at</strong>ing revenue as a proporti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>tal income.<br />

Council has an annual budget <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> $69 milli<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> which $9 milli<strong>on</strong> is committed <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

capital and project works.<br />

Council’s financial str<strong>at</strong>egies are governed by a 10 year financial model which is<br />

reviewed by Council each year. The aim <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the model is <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> increase Council’s<br />

commitment <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> asset renewal while simultaneously reducing debt.<br />

Issues<br />

• The need <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> set aside sufficient funding for Council’s ageing asset infrastructure.<br />

• The need <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> broaden Council’s revenue base.<br />

• Finding a balance <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>tween ec<strong>on</strong>omic returns and social resp<strong>on</strong>sibilities governing<br />
