Ku-ring-gai has an ageing infrastructure th<strong>at</strong> requires significant funding <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
sustainable and meet the needs <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the community.<br />
Pressure is <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>ing placed <strong>on</strong> the built envir<strong>on</strong>ment by increased development and the<br />
need for Council <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> manage appropri<strong>at</strong>e forms <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> development th<strong>at</strong> are symp<strong>at</strong>hetic <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
the area.<br />
There is an <strong>on</strong>going need <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> ensure a reliable, c<strong>on</strong>sistent, effective and efficient<br />
development assessment and regul<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> service.<br />
Issues<br />
• Ageing asset infrastructure (roads, drainage, footp<strong>at</strong>hs, buildings, open space).<br />
• Limited funding from St<strong>at</strong>e and Federal Governments.<br />
• Infrastructure Levy c<strong>on</strong>cludes in <strong>2005</strong>/06.<br />
• Protecti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the n<strong>at</strong>ural envir<strong>on</strong>ment.<br />
• Public liability implic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s.<br />
• Providing facilities th<strong>at</strong> meet community needs and social standards.<br />
• Analysis <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> capacity deficiencies <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> all drainage c<strong>at</strong>chments still <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> completed.<br />
• High num<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>r <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> reported flooding incidences.<br />
• High cost <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> completing drainage works required <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> meet 1 in 20 year design s<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rms.<br />
• Funding <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> ensure Council’s oper<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>al plant is replaced within optimal timeframe.<br />
• The reliability, effectiveness and efficiency <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Development Assessment services.<br />
• Land and Envir<strong>on</strong>ment Court appeal costs.<br />
• Backlog in development applic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s.<br />
• The need <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> provide a competitive certific<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> service.<br />
• The effectiveness <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> our m<strong>on</strong>i<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ring and regul<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> unauthorised works, uses and<br />
