Integr<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Council’s planning will improve the liveability and vitality <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> local<br />

communities and the sustainability <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the area.<br />

Council must resp<strong>on</strong>d <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> St<strong>at</strong>e Government and Community demands for additi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

housing, gre<strong>at</strong>er housing choice and associ<strong>at</strong>ed facilities.<br />

Issues<br />

• Federal and St<strong>at</strong>e policies, legisl<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>, reforms and initi<strong>at</strong>ives impact <strong>at</strong> a local level.<br />

• Demands for more housing, gre<strong>at</strong>er housing choice, gre<strong>at</strong>er and improved open<br />

space, new services and facilities.<br />

• Increased medium density housing will cre<strong>at</strong>e major demands, changes and<br />

opportunities within the area.<br />

• Sustainability (envir<strong>on</strong>ment, social, ec<strong>on</strong>omic) needs <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> integr<strong>at</strong>ed as the key<br />

driver <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Council’s approach.<br />

• Ageing urban centres require revitalis<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>.<br />

• Ageing infrastructure places limits <strong>on</strong> capacity for future development.<br />

• Travel, transport and parking demand is growing with roads and rail reaching<br />

s<strong>at</strong>ur<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> during peak periods.<br />

• There is limited integr<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> across the transport network.<br />

• Complex problems require multidisciplinary approach within Council and<br />

c<strong>on</strong>sult<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> and partnerships with the community, government bodies and other<br />

stakeholders.<br />

• Heritage, biodiversity and the tree canopy are under thre<strong>at</strong> from development and<br />

human activities.<br />
