Critical Speed Chart<br />

Simplicity ® Linear Slides<br />

CRITICAL SPEED: The maximum speed at which a ball screw or ball<br />

nut can rotate without producing destructive resonant vibrations. The<br />

critical speed is a function of the ball screw diameter, the unsupported<br />

length of screw, rigidity of bearing supports, and RPM.<br />

How To Use Chart:<br />

1. Determine end fixity. How many ends are fixed? (Slide designation,<br />

2RPS & 2LRPS)<br />

2. Determine slide length. (“L” dimension)<br />

3. Find the length – fixity vertical line, read up to find the intersecting,<br />

at the required travel rate.<br />

4. Select a slide above or to the right of the intersection point.<br />

5. Higher speeds and/or longer lengths are available as cost effective<br />

specials, having a larger ball screw and bearings. (Consult<br />

manufactuer.)<br />
