MULE POWER A strange name, a sordid history, made popular by Hollywood starlets, the mule promises to be “the” fashion shoe this spring Let’s get this out of the way: mules were often associated with prostitutes, then again, this was in the 18th century and we’ve come a long way, baby. It wasn’t until the 1950’s when a young actress named Marilyn Monroe made the mule popular, as did a host of other actresses like Jane Russell and Jayne Mansfield. Mules became to be known as clogs in the 60s and the popularity of this shoe was susbstantial in both culture and sales. Open or closed toe, high or low heel, chunky or thin, the venerable mule always makes a statement. Fabi Mules Giuseppe Zanotti Gianni Bravo mules 22 LA FASHION SPRING 2014 thelosangelesfashion.com
