Restoration Council of the Shan State greatly thanks all our patriots for giving advice, opinion and suggestions to RCSS regarding our announcement seeking for your opinion of negotiation of the ceasefire with President U Thein Sein government on 20 October 2011 on www.taifreedom.com and for all the general advices given.Every advice, opinion and suggestions given is indeed of invaluable help to RCSS. 2. Any letter of opinion sent to the RCSS should bear the real name of the sender and contact so that it can officially be recognized.If there is no real name together with the contact, the enemy or those willing to harm RCSS can dis guise themselves as the senders. Therefore, we do request cooperation from all our patriots to put real name and contact when sending the letters of your opinion. 3. Tai Freedom News A cause for concern For a person who has been campaigning for honour, truth, justice and freedom, and watching closely all the events that is enfolding between the Burmese military regimes and the Tai/Shan and other ethnic nationals, I sometimes feel so helpless and devastated. There is always an obstacle to stop every forward step made by the Tai/Shan and other ethnic nationals; most of the obstacles are caused by the enemy, but some of the obstacles are their own making. Now is a very crucial time for all non- Burman ethnic nationals. It is a time to hit or miss the opportunity of being free from the bullying and aggressive rule of the dictators. The dictatorial Government is calling for peace, and all the resistant groups will be meeting with Thein Sein's Government to negotiate terms. Please be reminded by this advice of F J Kennedy “Let us never negotiate out of fear-but let us never fear to negotiate” I feel that some of the leaders have not thought far ahead of what criteria will bring real peace to their country and people. Every time some of them meet up with the dictators they accept rewards and give in to the terms imposed on them, but afraid to negotiate for the terms that will bring real peace to their homeland and people. Although all the ethnic groups say that they are allies, and in reality want the same things, they do not work together as one body, and tend to give in to the terms the dictators throw at them. They shout for unity but do not know how to promote unity and fight together for what they want. As long as the dictatorial armed forces are in their territory peace cannot be achieved, and their people will never be free from human rights violations. In order to achieve peace all the dictatorial armed forces will have to be withdrawn from the ethnic homelands. Some ethnic nationals are afraid, hesitating and wasting time. Unless the dictators change their mentality and believe that all human beings are born equal, there can never be good relationship between them and other ethnic nationals, so peace is unachievable. Unless the people have a say in the development and welfare of their homeland, there is no hopes for democracy, and the dictators will forever rule over them and their homeland.. Without democracy there can be no peace The dictators have embraced Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to increase their weight against the other ethnic nationals, and use her to gain legitimacy from the UN and the Super Power, such as America. Time is critical, and once the dictators are accepted b y the UN as a legitimate government of Burma there is very little the other ethnic groups can do about it, except remain under the same old government and hope for change to come in another half a century. So far, there is little or no sign of the UN or powerful Governments to consider the voice of non-Burman ethnic nationals, or take their legal rights and grievances into consideration. The present government under Thein Sein is desperate to be recognised as a legitimate Government and is trying every means to get it. He has the world's most respected Icon on his side, and will demonstrate to the international communities that the regime has changed, and he might even release all prisoners, but for certain, the regime will never release the ethnic states out of their control. To have other ethnic states under their control has been the obsession of the hard-line Burmese politicians since the British and the Japanese Occupation. They thought that Bogyoke Aung San made a grave mistake by agreeing with other ethnic nationals, the principles of the Panglong Agreement: freedom, equality and self-determination.
