To apply this theory to the person, the bases of imputation
of the person are divided as shown above. The
external body is the material aggregate of flesh and bones
(except for certain miraculously-born beings who possess
a rainbow-light body instead). The internal body is the
five sense faculties. The subtle body is the physical support
of the mind, somewhat analogous to the nervous
system in Western physiology. Primary consciousness is
carried by the psychic winds in the system of channels
and channel-chakras-ten types of wind are listed (LG
43-46), With different functions such as enabling bodily
movements and sensory perception:
Just as a crippled man with vision can go about
with the support of a blind man who has legs,
so the primary consciousness, which has the
ability to perceive objects but not to move
about, and the winds, which have no ability to
perceive objects but do have the power to move
or go, can perform all the functions of apprehending
and relating to objects when they assist
each other in mutual support. (LG 44)
Thus from this point of view the channels may be compared
to our nerves and the winds to the electrochemical
impulses they transmit. But channels also conduct blood
and "drops" -white drops and red drops, i.e. semen and
that blood which is considered to be the female generative
fluid. The white and red drops received from the
parents at conception remain throughout life in the cavity
at the centre of the heart chakra, where they house the
very subtle, indestructible wind and mind. They also
grow and produce more drops, which collect in the other
chakras.
The indestructible wind and mind, in this system,
which is derived from Anuttara-yoga-tantra texts, exist
continuously, mutually inseparable, their natures unchanging,
regardless of the birth and death of the person,
