✏ To act out the principles for being a<br />
good friend, children may:<br />
• make their own puppets (from<br />
paper bags or sticks and cut-out<br />
pictures<br />
• use simple store-bought puppets<br />
• plan small role plays or skits<br />
✏ Situations such as those listed below<br />
may be written on separate cards in<br />
simple language and read with the<br />
children.<br />
• You are going on a field trip and<br />
don’t have anyone with whom to sit.<br />
• One of the girls in your class is<br />
having a picnic for several<br />
friends, and you’re not invited.<br />
• You just moved to a new town,<br />
and this is your first day in a new<br />
school.<br />
• Your friend shows you his new<br />
toy, and you have a better one at<br />
home.<br />
• A friend asks if he can copy<br />
answers from your paper.<br />
• Some of the other kids in your<br />
class tease you because you’re<br />
short.<br />
Keeping Friends<br />
Don’t always insist on having<br />
things your own way.<br />
Say nice things to your friend<br />
whenever you can.<br />
Listen to your friend’s feelings<br />
and tell yours kindly.<br />
Don’t argue; find a<br />
compromise.<br />
Do nice things for your friend.<br />
Don’t try to keep your friend<br />
only for yourself.<br />

✏ After the children have tried a few<br />
situations, they may want to make up<br />
some of their own for their friends to<br />
solve. Children may also enjoy audio<br />
or videotaping their performance.<br />

Requirement<br />
A. Discuss the work people do for your<br />
church.<br />
B. Learn about one job by helping the<br />
person do it.<br />
Background Information<br />
Six-year-olds can begin to understand the<br />
purpose of the local church (to worship<br />
Jesus, to love and care for each other, and to<br />
tell others about Jesus). Help them recognize<br />
the importance of each member in the<br />
work of the church. They need to know that<br />
they can contribute to their church even<br />
when they are young.<br />
The tasks in the local church may be<br />
explained by dividing them into categories,<br />
such as:<br />
1. Leaders: pastor, elders, church board<br />
members<br />
2. Caretakers: deacons, treasurer, clerk,<br />
secretary<br />
3. Teachers: Sabbath School teachers<br />
4. Church Ministries: personal ministries,<br />
community services, AY/Pathfinder<br />
leader, Adventurer leader, musicians<br />
