Degree Programs
Kettering University offers master of science degrees in a variety of subject areas. The concentrations in the Engineering program are
Automotive Systems, Mechanical Cognate, Manufacturing Engineering, CAE Simulation, Manufacturing Engineering-Lean Concentration,
and Mechanical Design. For resident engineering students, a limited number of teaching and research assistantships are available. In
addition, Kettering is proud to offer management degrees in Engineering, Manufacturing Management, Operations Management, Engineering
Management, and Manufacturing Operations, as well as our newest Master's degree in Information Technology.
A bachelor's degree is required for admission to any program. For admission to one of the engineering concentrations, the bachelor's degree
must be from an ABET regionally accredited institution and in an appropriate engineering area. The degrees in engineering and in management
can be completed in as few as fifteen months although the student has up to six years to complete the program.
Courses are available on-campus, as well as off-campus at the sites of participating employers around the country in a distance-learning
program. The courses are presented off-campus by videotape, CD-ROM, video-streaming, and augmented by use of the Internet to eliminate
time and distance as barriers to completion of a master's degree.
BACHELOR/MASTER PROGRAM
Available to Kettering Undergraduate students only. Must be an on-campus student.
Kettering University undergraduate students who desire to obtain a master’s degree may elect to complete the bachelor/master (BS/MS)
program which provides students an opportunity to accelerate the process in which they earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree.
This program is available only to Kettering University undergraduate students and leverages Kettering University’s premier academic
programs.
Students who are admitted into the BS/MS program will complete the same total number of work terms as conventional non-BS/MS
undergraduate students.
Program Requirements
The student completes the undergraduate degree, with the traditional undergraduate thesis (BS), and receives the bachelor’s degree at
to the graduate degree
• 32 credits remain in order to complete the graduate degree (for a total of 40 graduate credits). As an option, 4 of these
credits can be granted for an MS thesis.
Students must apply to the Option 1 BS/MS program before graduating or within 18 months after obtaining their undergraduate degree
OPTION 2: Graduate (MS) Thesis Only: No Undergraduate (BS) Thesis
• 8 credits granted for the MS thesis, 4 are applied to the undergraduate degree, 4 are applied to the graduate degree
• The student will not receive the bachelor's degree until completion of the MS thesis
• One course (4 credits) will be waived in the graduate program
• 8 credits of mezzanine level (500-level) courses, which were completed at the undergraduate level, are also applied
to the master's degree
• 28 credits will remain to complete the master's degree (for a total of 36 graduate credits).
• The MS thesis will be a more purely academic thesis driven by the faculty, but must be authorized by the student
