Kettering Park
On Monday, May 6, 2002 Kettering students enthusiastically welcomed the opening of Kettering Park. IM soccer and softball were the first
sports to be played in the first phase of the 25 acre sports complex. The sports fields, comprised of 70% sand and 30% topsoil, are all drained
and irrigated. The rectangular portion of the complex includes either 2 soccer fields or 4 flag football fields or a lacrosse field and are lit by
Musco Lighting, the premier sports lighting company in the country. Softball can be played on 4 fields, complete with backstops and
crushed limestone infields. The Park also provided students, faculty and staff with the opportunity to utilize the .62 mile (1K) crushed
limestone walking/jogging path.
To add to the park atmosphere 32 trees and 13 shrubs were planted in May as the first phase of landscaping was begun. These trees included
red maple, greenspire linden, Japanese flowering crabapple, hedge maple, common witchhazel and shadblow serviceberry. A memorial and
dedication tree row was established along Third Avenue.
Kettering students have a legacy of active participation in sports and fitness. The University has demonstrated with action and funding its
support of student life endeavors in the area of sports and fitness. When complete the outdoor recreational facilities will be one of the finest
in the United States and certainly a facility that evokes great pride for all.
Parents' Association
The Kettering University Parents' Association was organized to provide a channel of communication between parents and the University. It
enables Kettering to address the special interests and concerns of parents and provides a means for the exchange of ideas and support.
