The Kagle Mentoring Program
The Kagle Mentoring Program is a community based mentoring program. Mentors are upperclass, undergraduate Kettering students who
provide a long-term mentoring relationship with a student starting in the ninth or tenth grade at selected local community high schools. The
goals of the program are:
• 100 % graduation from high school
• 100% acceptance into a college/university
• Increased self-esteem, confidence and leadership in both mentors and mentees
• Increased volunteerism and advocacy in the Flint community.
This is also a scholarship opportunity for mentors. For more information about the program, qualifications and application, please contact
the Kagle Program Director, Cristina Reed at 810-762-9584.
Office of Women Student Affairs
Kettering’s Office of Women Student Affairs (OWSA) provides leadership concerning women’s issues in engineering to ensure our students
live and learn in a productive climate that encourages them to reach their full potential. The OWSA sponsors a wide variety of resources for
current and potential women students so they have the knowledge and information necessary to pursue their interests. To achieve our goals,
we:
• Host the OWSA website
• Publish the OWSA newsletter
• Provide peer and professional mentors for all women students
• Promote membership in professional organizations
• Present professional development workshops
• Maintain a library of print and broadcast resources
• Advocate for gender equity at the university and in the workplace
• Generate and disseminate information on women in engineering, technology, and science
• Maintain strong relationships with alumnae and others who generously support the OWSA and the Clara Elizabeth
Davidson Women’s Resource Center
• Sponsor a variety of pre-college programs that introduce middle and high school students to engineering as an
exciting career choice for young women and encourage them to continue achievement in math and science
The Office of Women Student Affairs is located in the Campus Center, Room 3-100. Contact Betsy Homsher, Associate Dean of Students, and
OWSA Director, at 810-762-9540.
Clara Elizabeth Davidson Women’s Resource Center
The Clara Elizabeth Davidson Women’s Resource Center serves as a focal point for all women on campus. Our goal is to provide both a
place and a forum for programs that enhance Kettering women’s academic, professional, and personal development. Each term, the WRC
presents weekly programs planned and carried out by students, as well as a number of special events designed to ensure women’s full
participation in the profession of engineering, in both the academic and corporate worlds.
The WRC is located on the third floor of the Campus Center near the Student Government offices. Contact Virginia Hill at 810-762-9873 for
a schedule of current events and further information.
Student Lounge
The Student Lounge has been created for students to use for relaxation, studying, or for just hanging-out. It includes a big screen television
and microwave oven. Enjoy the new lounge and accompanying services; feel free to stop by Student Affairs with suggestions for improvement.
Recreation Services
Recreation Services provides facilities and programs to meet the recreational interests of the Kettering community which includes students,
faculty, staff, alumni and their immediate families. Opportunities exist to practice and learn skills which lead to a healthy and satisfying lifestyle.
Numerous competitive and cooperative activities provide an ideal environment to test ones skills and value system.
Recreation Service programs and facilities are rooted in student ability and desire. Students are employed to operate facilities and programs.
The Connie & Jim John Recreation Center is the largest employer of students on campus in positions such as facility managers, recreation
assistants, lifeguards, sports officials, and fitness instructors. Kettering students are encouraged to use the recreational opportunities as a
stress release mechanism and as a means to fitness. An average of 2,400 participants per week use the Recreation Center during the cold
winter months.
The Kettering University Recreation Center opened in August of 1995 and was renamed in 2000 the Connie & Jim John Recreation Center.
It features an open multi sports forum with both wood and synthetic flooring. It includes five volleyball courts or four basketball courts or
two tennis courts. This area is also used for indoor soccer, the semi-annual graduation ceremonies, and an annual Robotics competition.
Other amenities include: three racquetball/wallyball courts, one squash court, a 1/8 mile suspended jogging track, locker rooms, steam
