RESIDENCE LIFE
Thompson Hall Student Housing
Frances Willson Thompson Hall is the Kettering University campus student residence. It is an attractive facility conveniently located for
classes and co-curricular activities. The building has four stories and is constructed in the shape of a figure eight with two landscaped
courtyards in the center portions of the design. There are 432 rooms in the Hall which is divided into 17 residential units of 17-35 student
rooms. Several living options are available within the Hall including co-ed, single gender, 24 hour quiet and Health and Wellness Units.
Student housing at Kettering is designed to offer maximum student privacy while grouping individual student rooms in such a way as to
create distinct and identifiable units. Each unit is assisted in this goal by an upperclass Resident Advisor.
Thompson Hall provides not only convenient and comfortable student living facilities, but also sponsors programs and activities which
contribute to the growth and development of the student. Every attempt is made to work with students and to aid in their adjustment at
Kettering University. We also ensure that adequate support is provided toward helping students master the challenging curricular programs.
The residence hall is air conditioned as well as being fully networked which equips each student's room with a phone jack, a computer jack
and a cable television outlet.
All freshmen students, except married students or those 21 years or older are required to live in Frances Willson Thompson Hall and
participate in Kettering University's full meal plan. New students who receive advanced standing due to transfer credits and who had a
residence life experience before coming to Kettering University may request a waiver of the housing residency requirement. The waivers
should be sent to the Associate Dean of Students at least 30 days prior to enrollment.
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND ACTIVITIES
Greek Letter Organizations
Fraternities and sororities have played an important role in the college experience at Kettering since the school’s beginnings in the early 20 th
century. Currently, 30% of our students belong to Greek organizations, which include 13 fraternities and 6 sororities. These organizations
offer many opportunities to meet new people, to build life-long friendships, and to practice and hone leadership and management skills.
Scholarship and community service are the cornerstones of the Greek experience. Members are expected to strive for academic excellence
and to serve local and national communities by donating time and raising money for a variety of philanthropic causes.
Fraternities are: Alpha Phi Alpha, Beta Theta Pi, Delta Chi, Delta Tau Delta, Lambda Chi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Delta Theta, Phi
Gamma Delta, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, and Theta Xi. The sororities are: Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha
Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Beta Sigma Phi, and Delta Sigma Theta.
Kettering University endorses the College Fraternity Executives Association statement on hazing, which strictly prohibits its use and imposes
severe sanctions on Greek letter organizations that engage in it. The CFEA hazing policy is contained in the “Statement of Relationship
between Kettering University and Fraternities and Sororities,” to which all Greek letter organizations must subscribe. All activities sponsored
by our fraternities and sororities must be consistent with their founding principles, as well as with the educational mission of the university.
They must also comply with federal and state laws, and Kettering University policies.
The Office of Greek Life is located in the Student Affairs Office, Room 3-120, Campus Center. Contact the director, Robert Marias at 810-
