Registrar / 31 Cooperative Education Requirements Students who complete their academic requirement in nine full-time terms or more must attain at least five satisfactory work evaluations at an authorized employer. Three of these five must occur after achieving Junior 1 status. In addition, each student must complete at least two thesis terms. Students who complete their academic requirements in eight full-time terms (minimum of 16 earned credit hours per term) must attain at least four satisfactory work evaluations at an authorized employer. Two of these four must occur after achieving Junior 1 status. In addition, each student must complete at least two thesis terms. Students transferring to Kettering University with 56 or more earned hours (Junior status), without a baccalaureate degree, must achieve at least three satisfactory work terms at an authorized employer. In addition, the student must complete at least two thesis terms. The work experience terms must be earned while a Kettering University student. Students transferring to Kettering University with 24 or more earned hours (Sophomore status) must achieve at least four satisfactory work terms at an authorized employer (three after attaining Junior status). In addition, the student must complete at least two thesis terms. The work experience terms must be earned while a Kettering University student. Students transferring to Kettering University with a baccalaureate degree must achieve three satisfactory work terms at an authorized employer. Thesis Requirement: Satisfactorily complete a senior thesis project. Financial Requirements: Be in good financial standing with Kettering University with no outstanding debts. Application to Graduate All students are required to fill out and submit an Application to Graduate to the Registrar’s Office. The completed application must be submitted at least six months prior to a student’s expected graduation date for an audit of the above graduation requirements. No student may graduate (receive a diploma) or attend commencement until this form is submitted to the Registrar’s Office and a graduation audit is issued to the student. Applications are available in the Registrar’s Office or at www.kettering.edu/registrar/. It is the student’s responsibility to have a current address on record in the Registrar’s Office. This audit and all graduation mailings will be sent to the current address. Final Degree Verification Letter A final letter is sent to the student and his/her employer when all requirements for graduation are met but before a diploma can be issued. Final letters will not be issued until all grades for the graduating term are submitted and posted to the student’s record. Graduation Distinction of Honors Summa Cum Laude - highest distinction based on a cumulative weighted grade average of 97.0 - 100. Magna Cum Laude - high distinction based on a cumulative weighted grade average of 94.5 - 96.9. Cum Laude - distinction based on a cumulative weighted grade average of 92.0 - 94.4. COMMENCEMENT Commencement is the ceremony honoring students receiving degrees from Kettering University. Diplomas are issued at the end of each term: March, June, September and December. Students receiving diplomas in March and June are invited to participate in June Commencement, which is held on Saturday, 10 th week of spring term. Students receiving diplomas in September and December are invited to participate in December Commencement, which is held on Saturday, 10 th week of fall term. An Application to Graduate must be on file in the Registrar’s Office to be eligible for commencement participation or to receive a diploma. (Refer to Graduation Requirements and Information for more information on the Application to Graduate.) Important: Students must meet all thesis deadlines to be eligible for participation in commencement. The Library Mission is ... "In support of Kettering University's mission, goals, and curruculum, the Library serves the community by providing resources and services to facilitate quality teaching, learning, and research through information access". Library Catalog Kettering University Library is a member of Public and Academic Library Network (PALnet). Searches in the PALnet database reveal the holdings of Kettering University Library and cooperative members. PALnet Members include three local colleges. For more information or for assistance using the PALnet catalog, please call 810-762-9598. Collection Materials purchased for the Library collection are to support the curriculum of Kettering University. Leisure reading material, fiction, newspapers and magazines are also available. Special attention has been given to include the publications of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers (ASTME), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), as well as American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standards, and proceedings for many curriculum-related societies. Access and storage for student theses is another important part of the collection. Hours/Loan Information The library is open seven days a week, a total of 83.25 hours, with reference assistance available most of those hours. During final exam week, however, the library hours are extended. Changes in hours are posted on the sign just outside the library entrance. Some helpful library telelphone numbers are the following: 810-762-7814 Circulation Desk 810-762-9598 Reference Desk 810-762-7938 Interlibrary Loan Technician 800-955-4464 Kettering University Toll-free Number While the library is open to the public for use during all of its hours of operation, circulation of library materials is restricted to Kettering University students, faculty, staff, alumni and sponsoring company employees. Students, faculty and staff may renew materials twice, either by phone or in person. The standard loan period for Kettering University Library materials is 30 days for undergraduates. Photo ID cards serve as library cards and must be presented when checking out materials. Audio and video equipment is available for use, as well as photocopier and transparency machines. A drop box is located near the library entrance for use when the Library is closed. Interlibrary Loan Materials not owned by the Library can usually be obtained through interlibrary loan (ILL). This service is available to students at no charge. In addition to local reciprocal agreements, the Library uses OCLC (OCLC's WorldCat, a world-wide database of library holdings). For our students and faculty, other reciprocal agreements are available among the Flint area academic libraries. Please contact the Reference Librarian or ILL Technician for assistance with your request. Electronic Indexes The Library subscribes to various online databases which index journal and newspaper articles, conference proceedings, etc. Campus-wide and remote access is available at www.kettering.edu. Click on: the Resources drop-down, then Library, then Databases. Currently, 28 FirstSearch databases and 10 InfoTrac databases provide indexing (citations, abstracts and some full-text articles) to thousands of publications. Reference resources within these databases can provide students with information about potential co-op partners. These subscription databases are available through the library menu and can be reached through Web or dial access 24 hours a day. Contact the Library if you need assistance. Public access computers are available in the Library. Online databases to which the Library subscribes include: Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, Engineering Index (Compendex), ENGnetBASE (engineering handbooks), INSPEC (an electrical engineering, physics and computing database), SAE Digital Library, Science Citation Index Expanded, and ScienceDirect. All provide citations and abstracts to literature in the areas of science and technology. Additional online resources include ProQuest ABI/ Inform Global, eBooks from netLibrary, and a link to Kettering's Full Text Electronic Journal Holdings.
