Cooperative Education Requirements<br />

Students who complete their academic requirement in nine full-time terms or more must attain at least five satisfactory work evaluations at<br />

an authorized employer. Three of these five must occur after achieving Junior 1 status. In addition, each student must complete at least two<br />

thesis terms.<br />

Students who complete their academic requirements in eight full-time terms (minimum of 16 earned credit hours per term) must attain at<br />

least four satisfactory work evaluations at an authorized employer. Two of these four must occur after achieving Junior 1 status. In addition,<br />

each student must complete at least two thesis terms.<br />

Students transferring to <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> with 56 or more earned hours (Junior status), without a baccalaureate degree, must achieve at<br />

least three satisfactory work terms at an authorized employer. In addition, the student must complete at least two thesis terms. The work<br />

experience terms must be earned while a <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> student.<br />

Students transferring to <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> with 24 or more earned hours (Sophomore status) must achieve at least four satisfactory work<br />

terms at an authorized employer (three after attaining Junior status). In addition, the student must complete at least two thesis terms. The<br />

work experience terms must be earned while a <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> student.<br />

Students transferring to <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> with a baccalaureate degree must achieve three satisfactory work terms at an authorized<br />

employer. In addition, the student must complete at least two thesis terms. The work experience terms must be earned while a <strong>Kettering</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> student.<br />

Thesis Requirement: Satisfactorily complete a senior thesis project.<br />

Financial Requirements: Be in good financial standing with <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong> with no outstanding debts.<br />

Application to Graduate<br />

All students are required to fill out and submit an Application to Graduate to the Registrar’s Office. The completed application must be<br />

submitted at least six months prior to a student’s expected graduation date for an audit of the above graduation requirements. No student<br />

may graduate (receive a diploma) or attend commencement until this form is submitted to the Registrar’s Office and a graduation audit is<br />

issued to the student.<br />

Applications are available in the Registrar’s Office or at www.kettering.edu/registrar/.<br />

It is the student’s responsibility to have a current address on record in the Registrar’s Office. This audit and all graduation mailings will be<br />

sent to the current address.<br />

Final Degree Verification Letter<br />

A final letter is sent to the student and his/her employer when all requirements for graduation are met but before a diploma can be issued.<br />

Final letters will not be issued until all grades for the graduating term are submitted and posted to the student’s record.<br />

Graduation Distinction of Honors<br />

Summa Cum Laude - highest distinction based on a cumulative weighted grade average of 97.0 - 100.<br />

Magna Cum Laude - high distinction based on a cumulative weighted grade average of 94.5 - 96.9.<br />

Cum Laude - distinction based on a cumulative weighted grade average of 92.0 - 94.4.<br />

COMMENCEMENT<br />

Commencement is the ceremony honoring students receiving degrees from <strong>Kettering</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Diplomas are issued at the end of each<br />

term: March, June, September and December. Students receiving diplomas in March and June are invited to participate in June<br />

Commencement, which is held on Saturday, 10 th week of spring term. Students receiving diplomas in September and December are invited<br />

to participate in December Commencement, which is held on Saturday, 10 th week of fall term.<br />

An Application to Graduate must be on file in the Registrar’s Office to be eligible for commencement participation or to receive a diploma.<br />

Important: Students must meet all thesis deadlines to be eligible for participation in commencement. Refer to the Thesis Services web page<br />

at http://www.kettering.edu/thesis/ for timelines by graduation terms.<br />
