Course Work Requirement: The academic degree department must specify no more than four courses (including labs) totaling no more than 16 nor less than 12 credit hours. 2. Performance Requirement: The student must achieve a term GPA equal to or greater than 85 with no individual course grade less than 77 for all enrolled courses. Withdrawals or incompletes are determined on a case-by-case basis by the Director of Academic Services. 3. Academic Advising Requirement: The student is required to meet with an academic advisor within the Academic Services Office. Any additional requirements that may be deemed appropriate by that advisor will be considered as an integral part of this agreement. 4. Other Departmental Requirements: The department may list other requirements, such as attendance, which does not modify the course and performance requirements above. 5. Academic Improvement Process Students with an academic status of less than good standing are required to develop and implement strategies for academic success with the assistance of an advisor. Through this process they may receive: • One-on-one student - advisor interaction regarding an analysis of the student's level of commitment and desire to succeed. • Strategies to change self-defeating behavior to achieve desired results. • Monitoring, support, and open lines of communication with involved faculty and staff. • Academic Support Seminars: Topics covered: study habits, learning styles, test-taking stategies, and time management/ social setting. Academic Advisement is provided through the Academic Services Office, room 3-322, Academic Building. STUDENT ACADEMIC RESOURCE CENTER The Student Academic Resource Center (SARC) is designed to provide academic support to Kettering University students. The Peer Tutoring program is a free academic support service offered to all students. The SARC is staffed primarily by top Kettering University students who are able to assist students in all freshmen and sophomore level courses as well as many upper level courses. Peer Tutors are available 60 hours per week. The SARC has a capacity of 50 students and provides an environment conducive to learning and studying. The Center has several computers available to students, some of which are part of the writing lab where a writing tutor is staffed part-time. Peer Tutors are available; Monday through Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Sunday 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Residential tutors are available in the Residence Hall in unit 14. Monday through Thursday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., workshops in calculus, chemistry and physics are also held in the Residence Hall. No appointments are necessary and tutoring is available to all students. Copies of schedules that indicate the availability of tutoring and workshops are available in the SARC and in the Academic Services Office. The Peer Tutoring Program and Academic Workshops are located in Room 3-342, Academic Building. INTERNATIONAL STUDIES (STUDY ABROAD) International Studies The International Studies Program at Kettering University can help students prepare for global leadership. Globalization and increased cooperation will require those entering the 21 st Century job market to be able to function internationally. Studying abroad will provide students with knowledge and experience that will give them a competitive edge to excel in the world market, and set themselves apart from students at other Universities in similar majors. Employers recognize that applicants who have international experience are more likely to possess the qualities in demand by our global economy. Kettering University currently offers several International Studies programs. They are listed below by major. All programs are offered in English and listed below by major. Mechanical Engineering: • Australia at the Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne (summer and fall) • Germany Automotive at the Fachhochschule Esslingen (spring and fall) • Germany at the Fachhochschule, Konstance (spring only) • Germany at the Fachhochschule, Munich (fall only) • Germany at the Fachhochschule, Ulm (fall only)

Students whose WAG falls between 80-82 must have a letter recommendation from an academic advisor to be considered for participation. Students who are not in good academic standing or have a judicial record will not be admitted into the program. Information on the specific requirements, including prerequisites, are available for each program in the International Studies Office. Course Work The course work taken through a Kettering University International Studies program is fully applicable toward credits the student's degree program for up to 16 credit hours. These 16 total credit hours include credits from all sources. A grade of 3.7 (equivalent to C or better) is required to receive those credits. Students who usually take 20 credit hours at Kettering University are only permitted to take 16 credit hours while studying abroad. Students concerned that taking a reduced course load during a term abroad may delay graduation may make a written request to the Registrar's Office to take an additional course at Kettering University after their study-abroad term. Students who wish to do so must meet the university's academic criteria. Financial Considerations To encourage undergraduates to participate in the International Studies programs, Kettering University has agreed to provide these terms as relatively “cost neutral” when compared to the expenses for tuition, room, board and transportation during a typical term on campus. Some variation should be expected. All students who opt for an academic term abroad will register for an International Studies term and pay the regular Kettering University tuition. Kettering University will then, in turn, provide students with a $1,500 stipend for the semester that the students are abroad. Students are able to borrow against this stipend up to six months in advance for a small fee. This loan is intended to provide students with funds necessary for purchasing round-trip airline tickets, passports, and any other expense that needs to be covered prior to departure. Students enrolled in a Kettering University International Studies term maintain their regular full-time enrollment status at Kettering University. This means that any Financial Aid or Scholarships are still available for the term abroad. Any concerns in this area can be brought to the Financial Aid office. Orientation Students enrolled in a International Studies term are required to attend orientation. The orientation will provide practical, logistical, and cultural information to prepare for studying and living overseas. Application Application materials are posted online at the International Studies web page (www.kettering.edu/academic services/international_studies). Students are encouraged to apply for a program one year in advance of the term that they wish to complete their International Studies since these programs have limited spaces available.
