GET TO KNOW A PLAYWRIGHT: Willy Conley is a playwright, photographer, actor, director,<br />

and Professor and Chair of <strong>The</strong>ater Arts at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. His plays include<br />

<strong>The</strong> Hearing Test (1991), which won the One-Act Play <strong>Award</strong> of the Sam Edwards Deaf <strong>Playwright</strong>s<br />

Competition, and <strong>The</strong> Universal Drum (2004), which is a play for young audiences. In 2009, his<br />

collection of plays, Vignettes of the Deaf Character and Other Plays, was published. As an actor, he<br />

has appeared in NBC’s Law & Order and performed on stage with the National <strong>The</strong>atre of the Deaf,<br />

Pilobolus Dance <strong>The</strong>ater, Amaryllis <strong>The</strong>atre, and others.<br />
