Welcome to the ILR. This is a community-based
membership organization of individuals age 50 and better
who share a love for learning. It was established in the fall of
1992 and classes began in 1993. We are one of 19 ILRs in
the state of Michigan and one of over 230 ILRs in the
United States.
KCC, ILR and Elderhostel Institute Network (EIN)
We are connected to Elderhostel, Inc. a non-profit
organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities
for older adults. EIN is an association of more than 230
Institutes for Learning in Retirement located primarily at
colleges and universities throughout the country.

Membership — What does it cost?
Our membership is $15 annually, beginning in July. This
gives you access to the ILR classes at a discounted
rate. You also are the first to hear about ILR classes,
luncheons and trips.
Membership Features:
Entertaining and informative classes
ILR members select classes to suit their interests
Newsletters and flyers. The newsletter contains ILR
news, class schedules, and KCC activities
Use of KCC library and bookstore
General membership meetings — each meeting
features a speaker and a meal. These meetings are
held to encourage friendship and to give members an
opportunity to get acquainted with other members.
Guests are always welcome!
Opportunities to learn and travel through day trips
and overnight excursions
ILRs in Barry and Calhoun
Counties
Through Kellogg Community College’s Fehsenfeld
Center, in Hastings, Michigan, and the Regional
Manufacturing Technology Center, located in Battle
Creek, Michigan, members and non-members have the
opportunity to take informative and fun classes at these
two convenient locations. Planning committees in these
communities design programs and activities that are of
interest to mature adults in Barry and Calhoun Counties.
Classes! Classes! Classes!
ILR classes typically last for two hours each week. Some
classes meet one week, some meet four weeks or more.
Take a class that meets your busy schedule.
ILR classes are held in the fall, winter and spring. The
class offerings are ever-changing to meet the interests of
the members.
You do not have to be a college graduate to attend
these classes! All that is required is a desire to learn and
make new friends. There is also no need to have prior
knowledge of a subject before entering the class.
