KECHARA ANIMAL SANCTUARY
Kechara Animal Sanctuary is a vision that is very close to the heart of His Eminence Tsem Tulku
Rinpoche. “No living being is too small or insignificant for our compassion” is a wisdom consistent
in all of His Eminence's actions.
Itʼs simple yet powerful logic. In ecological terms, every living being, regardless of size, has its
place in the scheme of existence. From a spiritual point of view, even the smallest being has the
right to happiness, and is endowed with a consciousness that has the potential for development.
Being weaker and limited in their abilities, animals are unable to communicate their suffering or ask
for help. Neither are they able to express their full appreciation or repay our kindness in any way
we would expect. Thus showing them kindness, as His Eminence has always demonstrated, is
unconditional love in action, with no expectations of returns.
In view of this, monthly animal liberation events are held – animals like turtles, fish and birds are
purchased and released, to save them from restaurants and dinner tables. And this is just the
beginning. It is our vision to have a 30-acre Kechara Animal Sanctuary, where animals can live
safe from harm, in a loving environment free from the worry of food and shelter. Whilst working
towards this, His Eminence and Kechara members have been lending support to domestic and
international animal shelters, rescues and sanctuaries, by offering both financial contributions and
donations in kind.
