Part of the Big Family Honorary Liaison and past Kechara House President, Datin Ng Wee Chin is one of Kechara’s most loved and respected members for her unwavering dedication to H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche and passionate, selfless support of Kechara. On pilgrimage in Kathmandu, Nepal with Rinpoche five years ago. Honorary Liaison Datin Ng Wee Chin, who is the immediate past president of Kechara House and member of the Kechara World Peace Centre (KWPC) Executive Committee, has played a vital role in the explosive growth of the Kechara organisation. Quiet and unassuming, her elegant demeanour belies her achievement as a busy and successful businesswoman who also has a full family life yet always finds time for Dharma. It wasn’t always like this. Datin Ng had considered herself a Buddhist but prior to meeting Rinpoche, she had little knowledge and understanding about Dharma. She confessed that she was not even particularly inclined towards spirituality before meeting Rinpoche. All this changed when she was introduced to Rinpoche by Liaison Henry Ooi and his wife, Angel, on Wesak Day 2004. When she observed over time how committed Kechara members like Liaison Henry, Liaison Ruby and Angel were, and how they unconditionally supported Rinpoche’s work, even when they themselves did not have much resources then, Datin Ng was inspired to help. The Priceless Reward “I asked myself, if they can, why can’t I? Certainly, Rinpoche had a direct and substantial impact on me. “When I learned and understood more about the essential meaning of Dharma, belief and faith came along naturally. I realised that I shouldn’t waste my life away. Hence, I started to get more involved in doing Dharma work by putting Dharma methods into practical actions.” After attending many of Rinpoche’s talks, and finding that the down-to-earth wisdom Rinpoche shared resonated with her and transformed her life, she committed to support Rinpoche’s work. Her motivation was that others would gain the benefits that she had received. Thus, she became one of Rinpoche’s largest and most devoted sponsors. Not one for the limelight, Datin has always contributed to the organisation quietly and unconditionally. Her priceless reward has been the Dharma. She shares, “What I like about Dharma is that if you understand Dharma correctly and act accordingly, you’ll find much greater satisfaction and meaning in life. More so, it gives the body and mind a sense of inner peace and calm. “I support Rinpoche’s Dharma work so that more people can benefit from his teachings as 08
much as I have. When we learn the Dharma, it will remove our inner and outer obstacles and eliminate our suffering through our Dharma practice. Rinpoche can awaken the spirituality in you, and he can help and guide you to a spiritual path that will be beneficial to you.” Datin Ng not only supports Rinpoche’s work through financial sponsorship but also actively supports the organisation through her work on the Kechara World Peace Centre Executive Committee and during her tenure as President of Kechara House. On a personal level, she also spends much of her time making offerings at the Ladrang, which she dedicates to the long life of Rinpoche, Kechara members and friends and her own family. Datin with her family, who have been very supportive of her Dharma work. The Highest Aspiration “My hope for the Kechara organisation in the future is for it to be a place of learning and great peace, totally imbued with spirituality which will be inspired by love, kindness and human compassion. “I also hope that the organisation will be able to build a greater awareness of the value of Dharma practice and spread Dharma to more people, with the goal to alleviate the sufferings of others.” For her own spiritual aspirations, she wishes to continue learning and practising Dharma until she reaches the final sanctuary which is a place blessed by Buddha – Kechara World Peace Centre. Kechara members both past and present will always be inspired and grateful to Datin for her continuous generosity of support: in time, care and resources, which she extends without agenda. When It All Falls Into Place As an Honorary Liaison and KWPC Executive Committee member, Datin finds working with the Liaison Council and KWPC revolutionary and legendary. She says, “Working with this group of people has taught me a lot about patience and love. Meeting these people has made me wealthier, not in terms of money but in working together as a team with care and harmony. They make me feel like I’m a part of their big family.” Having a very full schedule with her business, family and Dharma, she attributes her ability to balance it all to good time management. According to Datin, when we recognise our priorities in life, everything else will fall into place. For busy people with family and work commitments like herself, she advocates making the most of the potential we have. If we get our priorities right and we let whatever touches our hearts to motivate us, we will automatically wish to become involved in a worthy cause. For Datin, Rinpoche’s vision and the growth of the Kechara organisation is the cause she has committed to for the rest of her life.
