<strong>Keble</strong> <strong>College</strong>: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Record</strong> <strong>2009</strong><br />
in 1988. He was the author <strong>of</strong> 16 books and articles on the Old<br />
Testament and editor <strong>of</strong> a series <strong>of</strong> books. He leaves a widow<br />
Mary.<br />

died on 24 April <strong>2009</strong> aged 81. He was educated at Bemrose<br />
School, Derby and came up to <strong>Keble</strong> to read Physics and<br />
Chemistry. He was called up for military service and joined<br />
the 1 st King’s Dragoon Guards (1946–8). He returned to <strong>Keble</strong><br />
and read Medicine (1948–54). He was House Physician, House<br />
Surgeon and then Resident Accoucher at the London Hospital<br />
before becoming a General Practitioner. He was a Principal in<br />
a group practice in Brentwood, Essex for 30 years (1957–87)<br />
where he was a GP Trainer and Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Essex Faculty<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Royal <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> General Practitioners. He was the<br />
RCGP representative on the Medical Pharmaceutical Forum<br />
with the Association <strong>of</strong> the British Pharmaceutical Industry.<br />
He retired to Hampshire and took the Certificate <strong>of</strong> Aviation<br />
Medicine. He worked at Gatwick and Heathrow as a Port<br />
Health Medical Officer and as a Medical Examiner for the Civil<br />
Aviation Authority. He also did locums both civilian and for the<br />
RAF and did trips as a Ship’s Doctor. His recreations were long<br />
distance sailing, walking and reading. He is survived by his<br />
wife Barbara, their children Katherine, Richard and Deborah<br />
and 7 grandchildren.<br />
died on 24 August 2008 aged 79. Educated at King Edward<br />
VII School, Sheffield he came up to <strong>Keble</strong> after National<br />
Service to read Modern Languages (French and German). He<br />
played football and cricket for the <strong>College</strong> and football for the<br />
<strong>University</strong> Centaurs and cricket for the <strong>University</strong> Authentics.<br />
He also threw the javelin for the <strong>University</strong> Freshmen’s<br />
Athletics Team. He joined Lilley and Skinner as an Area Sales<br />
Manager (1953–60) and then moved to S Hubbard Ltd. He was<br />
Assistant to the Managing Director <strong>of</strong> their Luton subsidiary<br />
(1960–1) and a carpet subsidiary (1961–2). He became Assistant<br />
General Manager <strong>of</strong> Chiesmans Ltd, moving to Loughborough<br />
he was a Senior Buyer for the British Shoe Corporation. His<br />
son Chris writes: ‘Sport remained a passion all his life, enjoying<br />
as much games with the family as he did the competitive<br />
golf, cricket, bowling and table tennis at which he played and<br />
excelled. He had a great sense <strong>of</strong> humour and his popularity<br />
was demonstrated by the hundreds <strong>of</strong> people who attended his<br />
funeral. His first wife Gill died (1989) but he is survived by his<br />
second wife Val and his three children from his first marriage<br />
Carolyn, Chris and Sarah.<br />
