died on 10 February <strong>2009</strong> aged 77. Educated at Friars Grammar<br />
School, Bangor he graduated from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
North Wales at Bangor. He came up to <strong>Keble</strong> to read <strong>The</strong>ology<br />
and was awarded the Wills <strong>The</strong>ological Prize. Following his<br />
father’s footsteps he decided to <strong>of</strong>fer himself for ordination, so<br />
his next move was to St Michael’s <strong>The</strong>ological <strong>College</strong>, Llandaff<br />
(1954). He was ordained Deacon (1955) and Priest (1956). He<br />
was Curate <strong>of</strong> Glanadda, Bangor (1955–7) and returned to<br />
St Michael’s <strong>College</strong>, Llandaff as Librarian (1957–66) being<br />
also Lecturer in <strong>The</strong>ology at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> South<br />
Wales and Monmouth (1958–66). In 1969 a new Chapel was<br />
completed at St Michael’s <strong>College</strong>; it was consecrated by the<br />
Bishop <strong>of</strong> Llandaff and the preacher was Eric Abbott the then<br />
Warden <strong>of</strong> <strong>Keble</strong>. He decided to pursue a pastoral ministry<br />
and was appointed Vicar <strong>of</strong> Glanadda with Penrhosgarnedd<br />
(1966–71). He was also Director <strong>of</strong> Post-Ordination Training<br />
and Non-stipendary Ministry for Bangor (1970–90) to make<br />
provision for the ordination <strong>of</strong> older men who would minister<br />
while continuing in their secular work. He became Rector <strong>of</strong><br />
Llandudno (1971–83) being made a Canon <strong>of</strong> Bangor Cathedral<br />
(1977–8) and Chancellor <strong>of</strong> Bangor Cathedral (1978–83). He<br />
also served as Chaplain to the Actors Church Union, Bishop’s<br />
Examining Chaplain and Convenor <strong>of</strong> the Church in Wales<br />
Doctrinal Commission. He was Rector <strong>of</strong> Criccieth with Treflys<br />
(1983–6) and Archdeacon <strong>of</strong> Merioneth. He was diagnosed with<br />
Parkinson’s disease (1984) but nevertheless became full-time<br />
Archdeacon <strong>of</strong> Bangor from 1986. Due to his health he retired<br />
(1999) and wrote two versions <strong>of</strong> his autobiography (2003), one<br />
in English and one in Welsh. He is survived by his wife Eiflyn,<br />
daughters Llinos and Sioned, grandsons Dylan and Osian,<br />
brother Basil and a mother who is in her 104 th year.<br />

School for Boys he was called up for National Service and<br />
selected for the newly started Russian Course at Cambridge<br />
<strong>University</strong>. He came up to <strong>Keble</strong> to read Modern Languages<br />
(French and Russian) and played tennis for the <strong>College</strong><br />
paired with Richard Leeson. He became an export manager<br />
in the woollen industry and spent his career in the clothing<br />
industry. As a buyer <strong>of</strong> high quality cloth for several prestigious<br />
manufacturers he travelled widely in the USA, Australia, the<br />
Far East, the Soviet Union as it then was and Italy. He was an<br />
active member <strong>of</strong> Probus and organized concert outings for the<br />
members. He was also Treasurer <strong>of</strong> the Esher <strong>Record</strong>ed Music<br />
Society. He was Secretary and Treasurer <strong>of</strong> the Thames Ditton<br />
and Weston Green Conservative Group and was a great worker<br />
for party fund raising at constituency level. He played bowls<br />
