<strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong> at Large<br />
and St John the Baptist, Bollington (1947–50). He moved to St<br />
Peter, Macclesfield (1950–6) being Assistant Diocesan Inspector<br />
<strong>of</strong> Schools (1953–6) and an Assistant Master at Macclesfield<br />
Technical <strong>College</strong> (1953–6). He was appointed Vicar <strong>of</strong> All<br />
Saints, New Brighton (1956–67) being also Youth Chaplain<br />
(from 1958) and Chaplain to the Cheshire Regiment (TA)<br />
(1962–86) attaining the rank <strong>of</strong> Major. He became Vicar <strong>of</strong><br />
Hoylake until he retired (1967–86) and for most <strong>of</strong> this time<br />
was a Master at Wellington School (1967–82). He continued<br />
to <strong>of</strong>ficiate in the Diocese <strong>of</strong> Chester into his late 80’s in local<br />
Wirral churches as well as looking after his disabled wife.<br />
His son John summed him up as basically a clergyman <strong>of</strong> the<br />
‘old school’ who disliked the ordination <strong>of</strong> women but one<br />
admired by his parishioners and fellow clergy. One vicar, who<br />
trained under him, in his funeral tribute described him as ‘John<br />
Richard — Master Priest’. He is survived by his wife Rachel and<br />
sons John and Nicholas.<br />

died in early 2002 aged 64. Educated at Blackpool Grammar<br />
School he came up to <strong>Keble</strong> to read <strong>The</strong>ology. He became an<br />
Assistant Master at Tulse Hill School. He was Editor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Record</strong>s<br />
and <strong>Record</strong>ing (1972–6) and then Editor <strong>of</strong> Classical Music Weekly<br />
(1976–7). Entering Holy Orders he was ordained Deacon (1978)<br />
and Priest (1980). He was Assistant Curate <strong>of</strong> St James, West<br />
Hampstead (1979–82) and Vicar <strong>of</strong> Holy Cross, St Pancras.<br />
He was Editor <strong>of</strong> the Church Observer. He refused to accept the<br />
ordination <strong>of</strong> women into the Church <strong>of</strong> England and became a<br />
Roman Catholic Priest in the Archdiocese <strong>of</strong> Westminster. He<br />
was Parish Priest <strong>of</strong> Our Lady <strong>of</strong> Pity Roman Catholic Church,<br />
Swaffham. Father Trevor also became the Roman Catholic<br />
Chaplain to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> East Anglia (1996 until his death)<br />
where the Chaplaincy and the Dean <strong>of</strong> Students were sad to lose<br />
a much valued colleague. Marion Houssart, the Catholic Lay<br />
Chaplain with whom he worked closely, said: ‘He touched the<br />
lives <strong>of</strong> many in his inimitable way’.<br />
died on 22 September 2008 aged 90. He was educated at West<br />
Kensington Secondary School and became an Associate <strong>of</strong> the<br />
London <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> Divinity (1941) being ordained Deacon<br />
(1941) and Priest (1942). He was Curate <strong>of</strong> St George, Enfield<br />
(1941–4) and then became a Chaplain to the Forces (1944–8)<br />
gaining a Batchelor <strong>of</strong> Divinity from London <strong>University</strong> (1947).<br />
He came up to <strong>Keble</strong> for the Diploma in <strong>The</strong>ology and then<br />
rejoined the Forces as a Chaplain (1950–5). He was Chaplain to<br />
Ant<strong>of</strong>agasta, Iquique and Bolivia (1955–63) and to the Diocese<br />
<strong>of</strong> Chile (1963–86). After he retired (1986) he returned to the<br />
UK and lived in Bournemouth.<br />
