reverse <strong>of</strong> the mailing sheet which comes out with all <strong>College</strong> publications and return to the<br />

Guy Houlsby, former Fellow and Tutor in Engineering, has been appointed Head <strong>of</strong><br />

the Deptartment <strong>of</strong> Engineering Science, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oxford</strong> from July <strong>2009</strong>.<br />

1938 John Pemberton married (Rachel) Wendy Milne, daughter <strong>of</strong> Mr and Mrs<br />

W E S Milne <strong>of</strong> Waston Suffolk, on 1 September 1948, 60 years ago.<br />

1949 Peter Dawson — with their 2008 Christmas message, Peter’s wife Kathleen enclosed<br />

a note <strong>of</strong> very sad news to the effect that Peter is suffering from increasing dementia.<br />

He cannot remember names, and this distresses him when old friends occasionally call<br />

on him at Milnthorpe, Cumbria. So old friends be warned — be kind and tolerant to<br />

someone who throughout his life has been so kind and tolerant <strong>of</strong> others.<br />

Martin Rush writes: ‘At 90, still seeing a few selected psychotherapy patients.<br />

Published a WWII Bomber Pilot’s story, Music Bravely Ringing. Also launching a<br />

website, Happy Breasts Register to help women avoid breast cancer.’<br />

1950 Derek Donaldson writes: ‘For several years, I have translated into English verse, the<br />

poetry <strong>of</strong> a German Pastor friend. Recently, he arranged a German-English cultural<br />

evening near his home. A German actress read his poetry and I read my translations<br />

alongside. Much to our surprise and delight, the event was well-received.’<br />

1952 Brian Newton writes: ‘Now retired, I have led worship every Sunday for over eleven<br />

years in eight parishes (ten churches) in Boston, Lincs and District, also services<br />

in two Boston Residential Homes. For eleven years I have also headed up Boston’s<br />

Christain Aid Week house-to-house collections and sponsored Humber Bridge Cross,<br />

and raised about £50,000 for emergencies and development in the poorer parts <strong>of</strong> the<br />

world.’<br />

1953 Anthony Gelston has published <strong>The</strong> Psalms in Christian Worship: Patristic Precedent and<br />

Anglican Practice Alcuin Club and <strong>The</strong> Group for Renewal <strong>of</strong> Worship: Joint Liturgical<br />

Studies, 66 (November 2008)<br />

John Muir writes: ‘In November 2008 my book Life and Letters in the Ancient Greek World<br />

was published by Routledge. It is a survey <strong>of</strong> letter-writing in Ancient Greek society<br />

and includes many family and business letters as well as examples from religion,<br />

philosophy and literature.’<br />

1954 David Butler is CEO <strong>of</strong> TripleIC Ltd and has been appointed to the Management<br />

Committee for IT outsourcing at INTELLECT, the trade association for the UK<br />

technology industries.<br />
