STIPENDIARY LECTURERSHIP IN ENGLISH<br />
The College proposes to elect a Lecturer in English with effect from 1 October 2013 until 31<br />
December 2013.<br />
1. Duties<br />
FURTHER PARTICULARS<br />
The College usually admits about 9 undergraduates per year to read English Language and<br />
Literature and/or English and Modern Languages as well as a small number of graduates for<br />
taught and research degrees.<br />
The Lecturer whom the College wishes to appoint will cover for Dr Diane Purkiss, who is on<br />
sabbatical leave for Michaelmas Term 2013.<br />
The successful candidate will be expected to share the teaching and pastoral care of<br />
undergraduates for Moderations and the Final Honour School of English. The tutorial work<br />
involved will occupy 8 hours per week for the 8 weeks of each term. In addition, the person<br />
appointed shall assist with College examinations at the start of term and Warden’s<br />
Collections at the end of term, the routine administration and organization of teaching in this<br />
area, and undergraduate admissions. They will also be expected to participate in<br />
undergraduate admissions.<br />
The successful candidate will be expected to give tutorial for Final Honours School papers in<br />
Shakespeare and Literature in English 1550 – 1660.<br />
2. Duration<br />
The election will be for the period 1 October -31 December 2013 without extension.<br />
3. Stipend<br />
The appointment will be made on the Stipendiary Lecturers’ annual scale from £16,347-<br />
18,385, depending on experience. The person appointed will also be entitled to draw upon a<br />
personal academic allowance of £236 per annum for research and/or teaching purposes.<br />
4. Facilities<br />
The successful candidate is entitled to 8 free meals (lunch or dinner) per week at the common<br />
table.<br />

5. Pension<br />
Stipendiary Lecturers are entitled to a share of a room.<br />
The Lecturer is entitled to be a member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme. A full<br />
statement on USS is available from the Bursar.<br />
6. Leave<br />
The Lecturer is not entitled to sabbatical leave.<br />

a summary of career and details of education, degrees and other qualifications; experience in<br />
teaching, research or other employment; research in progress or planned; details of<br />
publications, prizes or awards (if any); and the names and addresses of two referees who can<br />
speak with detailed knowledge about the candidate. Candidates should ask their referees to<br />
