General<br />

With the UFO ® compact signal <strong>processing</strong> <strong>system</strong>, <strong>Kathrein</strong><br />

offers an economical and technically well-proven headend to<br />

process analogue and digital radio and TV programmes.<br />

Installation of the headend is extremely simple.<br />

The two module carriers available are dimensioned to<br />

enhold six or twelve signal <strong>processing</strong> modules and are<br />

completely pre-mounted and cabled. The control unit is<br />

simply connected to the <strong>processing</strong> module to be tuned using<br />

the attached connection cable. The <strong>processing</strong> modules<br />

only have to be inserted, connected and fi nally programmed<br />

as required.<br />

All standard tuning parameters can be set using the control<br />

unit (available separately). The UFO ® compact <strong>system</strong> can<br />

be quickly set up and pre-programmed by the antenna<br />

specialist before delivery to the installation site. The power<br />

supply unit integrated in the module carriers provides all<br />

necessary supply voltages.<br />

Alternatively, programming can also be performed using the<br />

USW 30 software (an additional adapter or UFX 314 data<br />

bus de-multiplexer is required).<br />

Power supply to the individual modules is undertaken using<br />

fl exible power supply leads. LNB powering is carried out using<br />

a remote feed diplexer (please order separately).<br />

LCN function<br />

Logical Channel Numbering<br />

<strong>Kathrein</strong> offers the function LCN (Logical Channel Numbering)<br />

for its <strong>processing</strong> <strong>system</strong> UFO ® compact.<br />

The functionality is integrated into all current transmodulators<br />

and modulators. Using this function cable network<br />

operators can also transmit programme list information as<br />

an LCN infomation as part of the NIT (network information<br />

table).<br />

After carrying out an LCN scan on an LCN capable receiver,<br />

the subscriber will have all COFDM or QAM modulated<br />

programmes distributed in the network saved on the DVB-T<br />

or DVB-C receiver in a pre-sorted sequence, as determined<br />

by the cable operator. Tedious programme sorting on the<br />

receiver is therefore not necessary anymore.<br />

The LCN function is available on both QAM and COFDM<br />

transmodulators/modulators, allowing use in both digital<br />

DVB-C and DVB-T cable networks.<br />

The LCN function will especially minimise service costs in<br />

networks serving hospitals and hotels and like organisations,<br />

which are already taking advantage of DVB-T and<br />

DVB-C distribution and often utilise fl at-screen TVs with<br />

integrated digital tuners.<br />

To be able to cater for as many network subscribers as possible,<br />

<strong>Kathrein</strong> has based the LCN generation based on the<br />

Nordig Specifi cation, Logical Channel Descriptor, Version 1.<br />

The DVB-T receivers UFT 675sw and UFT 676sw and the<br />

DVB-C receivers UFC 662sw and UFC 960sw are already<br />

LCN compatible. All future <strong>Kathrein</strong> DVB-C and DVB-T<br />

receivers will also be LCN compatible. The LCN function<br />

can be included in already installed UFO ® compact <strong>system</strong><br />

modules with a simple software update.<br />

The latest software versions are available for downloading<br />

free of charge from the <strong>Kathrein</strong> homepage<br />

“http://www.kathrein.de” found under<br />

“Service - Software and Downloads”.<br />

One must use a demultiplexer (UFX 312 or UFX 314) for<br />

programming.<br />

The corresponding confi guration software USW 30 must<br />

also be updated to the current version (at least version 3.6).<br />

Processing of digital satellite signals (SDTV and HDTV) in DVB-C compatible signals (digital cable TV) and<br />

into analogue TV signals<br />

Subscribers can decide if they want to continue receiving analogue programmes with their existing TV sets or if they want<br />

to receive digital programmes in optimal quality using an additional DVB-C receiver.<br />

Eight QPSK modulated DVB-S signals or 8PSK modulated DVB-S(2) signals per UFO 378/TP module can be<br />

transmodulated into eight QAM-modulated output signals<br />

Each UFO 395 module allows conversion of four programmes from up to two selected transponders into four<br />

analogue PAL-TV programmes. This allows 20 analogue TV programmes to be fed in.<br />

If the UFO 313 module is used, eight FM radio channels also can be processed.<br />

A total of approx. 150-200 digital and 20 analogue TV programmes as well as eight FM radio programmes are handled<br />

using this <strong>system</strong> example<br />
