TRiO Program – Student Support Services<br />
The TRiO/Student Support Services program is committed to affording students opportunities for<br />
academic development and personal improvement. TRiO/SSS is one of a group of programs established<br />
by Congress under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to help students overcome<br />
financial, social, and cultural barriers to higher education.<br />
The goal of the TRiO/SSS program is to motivate and assist students toward improving their grade<br />
point average, stay enrolled in <strong>college</strong> classes, complete their chosen degree or certificate<br />
program, and/or transfer to a 4-year university.<br />
Student Support Services (SSS) is located on the main campus in the Success Center. The<br />
TRiO/SSS program provides the needed assistance to participants in order to increase graduation,<br />
retention, and transfer rates of students.<br />

Tutoring<br />
Peer tutoring<br />
Financial literacy – counseling on types of financial aid, budgeting, and assistance with<br />
FAFSA completion<br />
Academic advising – assistance in postsecondary course selection<br />
Workshops – to develop academic and personal skills<br />
Cultural Experiences<br />
College visits – to 4-year universities and assistance with transfer<br />
Newsletters<br />
Connections – referrals to and aid with accessing important services on campus and in<br />
the community<br />
Supplemental Grant Aid – for qualified students<br />
Participate<br />
Active participation is highly encouraged and necessary in order to remain part of the program and<br />
to ensure students reap all the benefits the TRiO/SSS program has to offer.<br />
To Qualify:<br />
Student must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident to qualify for the TRiO/SSS program. Also,<br />
you must meet at least one of the following guidelines:<br />
You are a first generation <strong>college</strong> student (which means neither parent/guardian has a fouryear<br />
<strong>college</strong> degree)<br />
You meet financial need guidelines as outlined by the U.S. Department of Education; or<br />
You have a verifiable physical or learning disability<br />
