including Lafarge SA, and Firan Corporation.<br />

Marlo C. Thomas was appointed Executive Vice President in October 2002. He was appointed<br />

acting president of HKM in January 1999, and officially became president in July 1999. In<br />

September 2000 he was appointed president of HOP. Prior to January 1999, he was Director of<br />

Construction, Maintenance and Transportation Services of HKM from March 1, 1998 to December<br />

1998. Prior to March 1998, Mr. Thomas held various technical and supervisory positions in Russia<br />

and Sudan with Gulf Canada Resources, Komaiarcticoil, British Gas and then State Oil. In March<br />

1998, he was appointed Director, Construction, Maintenance and Transportation Services for<br />

HKM.<br />

Michael Azancot was appointed Senior Vice President, Exploration and Production in February<br />

2000. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in<br />

Petroleum Engineering from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. He has 25 years<br />

of experience in the oil and gas industry including international exploration and production.<br />

Prior to joining us, he held key positions with Occidental Petroleum in the UK and China and<br />

with Lasmos plc in Indonesia and the UK where he was General Manager for Production and<br />

Operations of their European and North African assets.<br />

Nicholas H. Gay was appointed as our Senior Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer<br />

effective October 1, 2001. He has 26 years of international experience in the oil and gas industry.<br />

Prior to joining Hurricane he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Bitech Petroleum<br />

Corporation, Chief Financial Officer of PanAfrican Energy Corporation (formerly Ocelot<br />

International), both Canadian companies, and Managing Director of Brabant Petroleum Ltd.<br />

based in the UK. From 1984 to 1991, Mr. Gay worked at Kerr-McGee PLC, where he held various<br />

positions including Director of Finance and Administration. Prior to 1984, he worked at LL&E Inc.<br />

and Arthur Andersen & Co. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in Economics and<br />

Economic History from the University of Durham, and is a Fellow of the UK Institute of Chartered<br />

Accountants and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.<br />

Anthony R. Peart was appointed Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate<br />

Secretary in December 2000. He is an attorney with degrees in law and arts from the University of<br />

Witwatersrand in South Africa. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in business administration<br />

from the University of Ghent Business School in Belgium and has completed the program for<br />

Management Development at the Harvard Business School. He has 24 years of experience in the<br />

oil and gas industry in management, legal and corporate affairs. Prior to joining us, he was most<br />

recently Managing Director of Bula Resources (Holdings) plc, an oil company listed on the London<br />

and Dublin Stock Exchanges. He was previously Managing Director of MMS Petroleum plc, a UK<br />

junior oil company, and prior to that Mr. Peart held various management positions at Lasmo plc,<br />

Ultramar Exploration Ltd. and Veba Oil and Gas in the United Kingdom.<br />

Dermot Hassett was appointed Vice President, Marketing and Transportation of Hurricane<br />

Hydrocarbons Ltd. effective September 1, 2002. For two years prior to his appointment<br />

Mr. Hassett was Vice President Marketing and Trading for Hurricane’s operating subsidiaries<br />

Hurricane Kumkol Munai and Hurricane Oil Products based in Almaty in Kazakhstan. He has<br />

24 years of international experience in the Oil and Gas Industry in the Marketing, Strategic<br />

Planning and Finance sectors. Prior to joining Hurricane he was Business Unit Director of Elf Oil<br />

UK Limited, Managing Director of Elmgrade Ltd and held various positions within Amoco UK Ltd<br />

and Mobil Oil UK Ltd.<br />

Ihor P. Wasylkiw was appointed Vice President Investor Relations in March 2000. For the<br />

two years prior to this appointment Mr. Wasylkiw held the position of Director Investor<br />

Relations. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of<br />

Manitoba. From 1979 to 1992, Mr. Wasylkiw worked for Shell Canada Limited in various technical<br />
