To the Shareholders of
Hurricane Hydrocarbons Ltd.
Independent auditors’ report
We have audited the consolidated balance sheets of Hurricane Hydrocarbons Ltd. (the
“Corporation”) as at December 31, 2001 and 2000, and the consolidated statements of income
and deficit and cash flow for each of the three years in the period ended December 31, 2001.
These financial statements are the responsibility of the Corporation’s management. Our
responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audits.
With respect to the consolidated financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2001 and
2000 we conducted our audits in accordance with Canadian generally accepted auditing
standards and United States generally accepted auditing standards. With respect to the
consolidated financial statements for the year ended December 31, 1999, we conducted our audit
in accordance with Canadian generally accepted auditing standards. Those standards require that
we plan and perform an audit to obtain reasonable assurance whether the financial statements
are free of material misstatement. An audit includes examining, on a test basis, evidence
supporting the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. An audit also includes
assessing the accounting principles used and significant estimates made by management, as well
as evaluating the overall financial statement presentation. We believe that our audits provide a
reasonable basis for our opinion.
In our opinion, these consolidated financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the
financial position of the Corporation as at December 31, 2001 and 2000, and the results of its
operations and cash flows for each of the three years ended in the period December 31, 2001 in
accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in Canada.
