DESCRIPTION: 33·x40·,3-story structure, gable ro<strong>of</strong>, corrugated metal<br />

ro<strong>of</strong>ing, wood frame construction, wood shake s-iding, covered balcony, concrete<br />

foundation.<br />

SIGNIFICANCE: Construction prior to 1914 to be a market operated by J.M.<br />

Giovanetti. Born in Italy in l877, Giovanetti arrived in Juneau in 1904. For<br />

many 'years proprietor <strong>of</strong> grocery store at this location, later employed by the<br />

Alaska ~uneau Mill.<br />

DESCRIPTION: 30'x34', 3-story wood frame structure, exterior in the "Iueen<br />

Anne" style, steeply pitched metal, hipped ro<strong>of</strong> with four over-sized gabled<br />

dormers appearing on each orientation; finished in a horizontal wood clapboard<br />

with contrasting areas <strong>of</strong> fish scale shingle siding; wood frame, basement.<br />

Houses three apartments, one per floor.<br />

SIGNIFICANCE: Constructed in 1898 by Jerry Eicherley, postmaster <strong>and</strong> owner <strong>of</strong><br />

the post <strong>of</strong>fice. Leased to Superintendent <strong>of</strong> Perserverance Mine. Sold in<br />

1911 to John Rustgard, 1ater Attorney General <strong>of</strong> Al aska. Condemned by the<br />

city in 1927 to clear site for school building, the structure was purchased<br />

by Frances Davis, noted Juneau artist. The house was moved a short distance<br />

<strong>and</strong> became known as IIFrances House. 1I<br />
