<strong>Juneau</strong> <strong>Police</strong> <strong>Department</strong> Annual Report 2011<br />
In 1934, Hitler became the Comm<strong>and</strong>er-in-Chief <strong>of</strong> Germany, it was the Great Depression,<br />
prohibition had just been repealed, <strong>and</strong> Alaska was a territory. The <strong>Juneau</strong> <strong>Police</strong><br />
<strong>Department</strong> had four (4) sworn <strong>of</strong>ficers who were responsible for keeping the<br />
peace within the <strong>City</strong> limits. During the period between May 1 - Oct 30 the police made<br />
388 arrests, issued 150 traffic violation tags <strong>and</strong> the <strong>City</strong> Clerk collected $2,907.10 in<br />
fines. Chief Davis reported to the <strong>City</strong> Council that conditions in the <strong>City</strong> were fairly<br />
good.<br />
The <strong>City</strong> Council hired a police woman whose duty was to supervise places <strong>of</strong> amusement<br />
where young people gathered <strong>and</strong> to exercise general jurisdiction over the activities<br />
<strong>of</strong> minors when not under direct supervision <strong>of</strong> their parents or guardians. This patrol<br />
woman was appointed temporarily for 30 days under the authority <strong>and</strong> direction <strong>of</strong><br />
the Chief <strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong>. She was the first female JPD police <strong>of</strong>ficer.<br />
