MINIPULS 3
Electrophysiology of rat brain cells
To measure electrical signals and intracellular calcium concentrations
of neuronal cells at the same time, Mr. Kwang-Hyun
Cho, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher from the College of Medicine
at the Catholic University of Korea, uses a microscope
focusing on a perfusion chamber drained by a Minipuls 3. The
neuronal cells come from a rat brain slice bathed in a buffer
inside the chamber. This buffer is an oxygenated saline solution
that ensures the viability of the neuronal
cells, which are very sensitive to oxygen.
“ ”
The Minipuls 3 is very convenient
for the re-circulation of solutions
says Doctor Kwang-Hyun Cho when referring
to a key benefit of the pump. Engineered with
a 10-roller rotor, the Minipuls 3 produces
smooth pulse-free flows, which eliminate
siphoning or clogging phenomenon, a significant
advantage when circulating sensitive
neuronal cells.
MINIPULS Evolution ®
Study of bacterial biofilm
In the Institute of Biology at the Leiden University,
the molecular biology team seeks to identify Pseudomonas
(Pseudomonas putida) genes and traits
involved in efficient competitive root colonisation
in order to understand how bacteria survive,
proliferate, and compete in the rhizosphere after
bacterisation of seeds. The Minipuls evolution is
used to study bacterial biofilms in flowcell chambers.
Bacteria grow in flowcell chambers fed by an oxygenated
solution and media. The Minipuls evolution is used to
bring this solution to the chambers and recycle it.
The growth media was delivered at 0.125 mL/min to the flowcell
system. Elen Lagendijk, technical assistant at the molecular
and biology department, says
“
one of the outright benefits of the Gilson Minipuls evolution peristaltic
pump is that it enables the operator to replace tubing, add or remove channels while the pump
is running without interrupting the flow in the other chambers…
