FIRE IN OUR HEARTS<br />

AWAKE O ZION!<br />

The atmosphere was terrific. It was family. At Malhamdale we<br />

really saw the vision of community. It’s hard to describe such<br />

deep m<strong>in</strong>istry. We were cry<strong>in</strong>g with joy — I mean everybody,<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Noel. You never wanted the meet<strong>in</strong>gs to end. You just<br />

wanted to sit there and know the love. It brought everyone<br />

through — I mean, if you weren’t real for the Lord, you’d never<br />

have stood a fortnight of it!<br />

‘It was fun too!’ said his wife. ‘We played tricks on each other,<br />

like ty<strong>in</strong>g all the bedroom door knobs together. One night I<br />

jumped <strong>in</strong>to bed and someone had put a load of dried peas <strong>in</strong><br />

it!’<br />

Many of us remembered worshipp<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>in</strong> the caverns<br />

and tunnels of White Scar cave. ‘<strong>Jesus</strong>, <strong>Jesus</strong>, let me tell you<br />

what I know,’ rang out <strong>in</strong> echo<strong>in</strong>g harmonies and rounds as<br />

the <strong>Jesus</strong> People made their way s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g through the underworld,<br />

accompanied by some skilful play<strong>in</strong>g on the stalactites.<br />

At Malhamdale the Spirit was br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g a new sense of unity<br />

and power which confronted the forces of darkness. Noel<br />

taught on the spiritual warfare and there were quite a few<br />

demonic manifestations. Some from the nicest people you<br />

could know.<br />

At this po<strong>in</strong>t I made an exit. I felt as though I had a hard<br />

shell around me that wouldn’t break and I couldn’t get <strong>in</strong>to<br />

the flow. So I went home to lick my wounds and try to pray. I<br />

passed Victor and his family arriv<strong>in</strong>g for the second week<br />

and saw his acute embarrassment as an older sister flung<br />

her arms around him! I wished him luck! But he fared better<br />

than I, be<strong>in</strong>g a humbler man. Victor was determ<strong>in</strong>ed to lose<br />
