Gather<strong>in</strong>g for Power<br />

1970<br />

Geoff died on the last day of January. He was just twenty.<br />

God’s power was real, but there was no miraculous cure. The<br />

Thanksgiv<strong>in</strong>g service was full of victory, praise and tears. At<br />

his graveside they sang ‘Blessed Assurance’, while some wept<br />

and cried to the Lord. Geoff’s parents, Arthur and Lily, were<br />

deeply moved by the love that had been shown them. Lily<br />

was a churchgoer, and Arthur was chapel. Both had felt reserved<br />

towards this move of the Spirit, but Lily began to go<br />

to the meet<strong>in</strong>gs, found the Lord, and was drawn <strong>in</strong>to the centre<br />

of th<strong>in</strong>gs. Arthur followed later.<br />

The travail over Geoff proved to be the birthpangs of a new<br />

fruitfulness. The sense of God’s presence <strong>in</strong>creased, and Noel<br />

circulated a newsletter around the villages. The mid-week<br />

chapel meet<strong>in</strong>g now moved around and met <strong>in</strong> homes. They<br />

were packed out. Expectation was still for revival and Noel,<br />
