FIRE IN OUR HEARTS THE LORD TOOK HOLD OF BUGBROOKE
was just not going to live anymore! I became filled with the
intensity of God. This went on for hours and hours and I moved
into speaking in tongues and praising the Lord. It was a tremendous
experience of life and fulness from which I didn’t come
down for a long time — and this was the changing point in my
life. 7
Around this time some of the chapel youngsters were baptised
in the Spirit. Noel spoke in chapel of his own experience,
and others began to enter in. Verna wrote to tell Dave.
He was walking down a street in Malawi when he opened the
letter. He leapt for joy. Quickly he wrote back to Verna: ‘I was
praying for an outpouring of the Spirit, and then you told me
what happened. It was amazing! — I mean, it was the happiest
day of my life!’
It looked as if the promise given in 1951 was reaching fulfilment.
Verna herself received ‘the blessing’ in her own cottage
a month later. The church had found a new path. Little
did they know it would lead to them being called ‘one of the
most controversial Christian groups in the country’. 8
