At the start of the 90s, the London Daily Mirror published a<br />

feature article with col<strong>our</strong> photographs of a <strong>Jesus</strong> Fellowship<br />

meet<strong>in</strong>g and a descriptive write-up with testimonies. It carried<br />

the banner headl<strong>in</strong>e ‘Rock Onward Christian Soldiers’.<br />

A subhead<strong>in</strong>g read ‘Born-aga<strong>in</strong> youngsters f<strong>in</strong>d happ<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

belt<strong>in</strong>g out their love for <strong>Jesus</strong>’. It said, ‘While more traditional<br />

forms of religion are <strong>in</strong> decl<strong>in</strong>e, the new churches —<br />

noisy, <strong>in</strong>formal, passionate — go from strength to strength.’ I<br />

am quoted as say<strong>in</strong>g, ‘We are part of a revolution that is tak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

place <strong>in</strong> this land. A revolution of love, of joy, of justice.’<br />

The article ends: ‘The new Christians are <strong>in</strong>deed on the<br />

march.’<br />

That article was a sign of the times. The media had realised<br />

that a new <strong>Jesus</strong> movement was spread<strong>in</strong>g through the UK.<br />

Now, <strong>in</strong> the late n<strong>in</strong>eties, the so-called ‘Toronto’ bless<strong>in</strong>g, with
