Speaker Biographies/Information<br />

Darryl Hunter<br />

Officer Darryl Hunter of Baltimore, Maryland, was born <strong>in</strong>to generational poverty. He has served <strong>in</strong> the U.S. Army for several years<br />

<strong>in</strong> the communications field. Now, a 19 year veteran with the Baltimore County Police Department and a three time recipient of<br />

the “Officer of the Year” award, Officer Hunter stands as one of the highest decorated officers on the department. This department<br />

employs more than 2,400 sworn officers and serves more than 786,000 residents. As a School Resource Officer, he has spent four<br />

years assigned to a middle school and is currently assigned to a high school. Officer Hunter is a member of the Maryland D.A.R.E<br />

Officers Association, (MDOA), and serves as a certified Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) <strong>in</strong>structor. Additionally, he<br />

is a tra<strong>in</strong>er and program leader of I-Safe, and tra<strong>in</strong>er of Handgun Violence Reduction and Child Sexual Abuse Prevention. He is a<br />

member of the National Association of School Resource Officers, (NASRO), and serves as a national <strong>in</strong>structor. As a member of the<br />

Board of Directors for the Maryland Student Assistance Program Professional’s Association, (MSAPPA), Officer Hunter serves as<br />

the chairman of the Publicity Committee. His knowledge and experience as a police officer have also led him to become an Assistant<br />

Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal at Kenwood Even<strong>in</strong>g High School, an alternative center <strong>in</strong> Baltimore County.<br />

Dave Johnson is a Consumer Advocate for the National Center for Trauma-Informed Care. The National Center for Trauma-Informed<br />

Kathleen Egan Jones<br />

Kathleen Egan Jones has been employed by the Department of <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> at the 11th Court Service Unit for more than 20 years, She<br />

currently is the Intake and Special Programs Supervisor <strong>in</strong> the Petersburg Office. Ms. Jones is responsible for the day to day operations<br />

of the <strong>in</strong>take unit and is responsible to <strong>in</strong>sure fidelity to the detention assessment <strong>in</strong>strument (DAI) <strong>in</strong> all <strong>in</strong>take decisions. She has been<br />

<strong>in</strong>tegrally <strong>in</strong>volved with the detention alternatives <strong>in</strong>itiative <strong>in</strong> Petersburg and was a Virg<strong>in</strong>ia delegate to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s<br />

National <strong>JDAI</strong> Inter-Site Conference <strong>in</strong> New Orleans. In addition, Ms Jones manages the Pre/Post Trial Release Program which is<br />

the CSU’s detention alternative program <strong>in</strong> the city of Petersburg. She has both a B.S. degree <strong>in</strong> <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> and a M.S. degree <strong>in</strong><br />

Corrections Adm<strong>in</strong>istration from Virg<strong>in</strong>ia Commonwealth University. She is also a member of the Virg<strong>in</strong>ia <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> Association<br />

and the Probation and Parole Association. She has two adult children and lives <strong>in</strong> Richmond with her husband Jim.<br />
