Father Appreciates Outstanding Care Delivered by Associates of The Family Birth Place at St. Luke’s My wife gave birth to our daughter Alice at St. Luke’s on April 13th in the Family Birth Place. We just wanted to thank everyone for helping us have a great experience. Everyone was very friendly and great at their job. This was our 3rd child, and St. Luke’s was by far the best experience we’ve had in comparison to the two previous hospitals we’ve been at. In particular, we really liked Kim Shogren who was the nurse during the actual delivery. She was awesome. Can’t remember details very well at this point but we were really impressed with her and felt lucky to have her help during the delivery. She’s the type that could handle a lot of responsibility. We also really liked Laurie, our nurse for days two and three. She had an awesome attitude and was really friendly. Another gem. Also, Janelle, I think she is a patient care technician – she helped my wife with a few different things and wheeled us to our car as we left. She couldn’t have been more thoughtful. My wife really appreciated the care we got at St. Luke’s. All the docs, nurses, techs and support staff were great. My wife and I are both docs ourselves and have spent a good amount of time in hospitals and really appreciate the good attitude we found at St. Luke’s. Sincerely, Andrew Ginzel The Family Birth Place at St. Luke’s Hospital To all who have donated to the Food Pantry: I have had the opportunity to thank some of you individually. Some have left food with Mike for the food pantry. Some have donated in your departments. Others have planted gardens so fresh vegetables would be available. No matter how the food was delivered, know that it is truly appreciated by the families. Our numbers have increased and your donations have also increased. Thank you for your participation in this ministry. Sister Patricia Vincentian Coordinator Garage Sales Benefit Food Pantries St. Luke’s and St. Vincent’s recently provided unique opportunities to support the Food Pantries on both campuses by holding garage sales that raised a total of $6,606. The proceeds will allow us to assist the ever-increasing number of people who turn to us for help feeding their families. We thank the many volunteers who made the events possible and all who contributed by purchasing items. Special Breakfast and Sodexo Cares Bear Added Festive Spirit on Easter Sunday By Christopher J. Van den Avont Director of Food & Nutrition Services Spending a holiday in the hospital can affect patients emotionally. That’s why St. Vincent’s employees made sure patients had a festive Easter holiday. The Sodexo Cares Bear made rounds to units to bring patients a warm and fuzzy feeling. Food and Nutrition Services also prepared a special meal for the holiday. Chef Francois Dormevil and his team cooked eggs benedict and country style potatoes. Patients were also treated to fresh fruit, sparkling cider and each received a stuffed bear on their breakfast tray. SVMC Food and Nutrition Associate of the Month Each month, SVMC Food and Nutrition associates select one or two of their peers for outstanding work in meeting department goals and for displaying St. Vincent’s Core Values. For the month of March, the department selected Wanda Allan as the Associate of the Month and Nicole Heidenreich as the Rookie of the Month. Congratulations, Wanda and Nicole, and thank you for your outstanding work and commitment to St. Vincent’s Core Values! MAY 2011 7
