SVHC hosted its third successful Ladies Night Out
at the St. John’s Town Center April 14. The focus
this time was health and wellness. Olympic gymnast
Shannon Miller joined us again as the emcee. Shannon,
who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer, is a
health and wellness advocate. She encourages fitness
among all ages through her weekly Shannon Miller
Lifestyle radio show (underwritten by St. Vincent’s
HealthCare) and her new Walk-Fit program.
Throughout the evening, participants were treated to
healthy cooking demonstrations from area chefs. Chef
Kenny Gilbert, from Bravo TV’s hit show Top Chef
delighted the audience as he prepared a vegetarian dish
for them to sample. Chef Gilbert just opened his first
restaurant, Nippers Beach Grille in Jacksonville Beach.
Participants also enjoyed heart healthy menu items
from Maggiano’s, Cantina Laredo and Ted’s Montana
Grill.
One of our weight loss models
shows off a pair of pants she
wore prior to her weight loss.
The event also included fashion shows…this time with
weight loss surgery patients, their doctors and nurses.
Proud men and women walked the stage as the stories
of their weight loss struggle and successes were shared
with the audience. One woman, who now sports a size
2, brought her old pants with her to show her dramatic
weight loss. The 20 patients who took part in the
fashion show have lost more than 2,300 pounds!
Our wonderful nurses volunteered their time to
provide free blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol
screenings to participants and St. Vincent’s Primary
Care doctors were there to answer questions. The
YMCA joined us again, getting people off their feet
during live exercise demonstrations. Kids joined the
fun too with free face painting and a bounce house.
Chef Kenny Gilbert prepared food from his Jacksonville Beach
restaurant, Nippers Beach Grille. Olympic gymnast, Shannon
Miller, emceed.
A big thank you goes to the many SVHC associates,
families, friends, physicians and patients who donated
their time and energy to making this another successful
Ladies Night Out!
